As the name implies, this concept car grafts fashionable green technology on the body of a 2 2 sports car. The promise: BMW M-car performance from a vehicle with a three-cylinder diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Like all autoshow cars it will never be available at the local dealer.
Better to buy a Prius and get my share of rare earth metals!
Could you please change the headline to be accurate, stating that it’s a concept piece of shit that will never be actually built so I don’t have to waste my time clicking around here.
I like it but if I have to click to a Fox Snooze web site, I’ll wait later for the real story.
Concept cars are usually cool but you can never have one.
It amazes me how people here instead of marveling at new technology that is better, instead get impressed by cutting fuel use by 5%.
Most people would rather see this fuel savings used for a bigger car, or faster, or heavier, etc.
And on last week’s comparison of a hybrid and full electric. Turns out the hybrids and windmills use rare earth metals that could start a shortage. Perhaps the full electric is better after all.
BMW actually has a very good track record of bringing trade-show concepts, if not the exact cars themselves, to the streets. A cer very much like this one will almost certainly be on the roads in a few years.
It’s not a convertible = it’s not a sports car.

Tesla should have waited and bought the NUMMI plant in Fremont.
Looks like the way to defeat JCD bogus spam filter is multiple postings (reference to #11).
Diesels are more efficient then gas, so why not use that in a hybrid to get the best of both worlds.
Seems like BMW will be beating allot of other car companies to the market if they actual do apply the technology in a product line.

Please, American car companies, this is the future.
Electric motors are immediate torque.
Imagine a C10 Corvette with a V8(that can deactivate 4 cylinders) plus an electric motor.
Each wheel mounted electric motor provides 100 hp(stretch the possible) and the gas motor gives up to 500 hp.
You could build and sell a car with good fuel economy and 700+hp for under 50k.
Scale this down for everyone else and tons of Americans would, once again, be willing to buy American cars.
How much do electric cars cost?
The Volt will probably have a battery back costing more than the value of the car once the first pack wears down.
Not much cargo room and major sticker shock.
And I thought that BMW had hit a real home run with this new concept:

If it really can do what the article says it can do they should jump into mass production.
The only other 3 cylinder car I know of is the GeoMetro. Great on gas but ugly as hell.
Does look a little flimsy if you get in an accident but I would choose that car over getting hit in one of those funny looking little Smart cars.
One thing for sure, as more and more advanced cars come out, the new job to get into is auto mechanics. Though, working on one of these when it breaks down may require an engineering degree.
Definately would want all the extended warranties and service plans you can get when buying newer advanced cars.
