Very interesting. Both the pictures, and the stupidity of the man standing there and taking those shots! But I guess at that point it really doesn’t matter, where you run or what you do if it’s that close, so you might as well bring out the digital cameras.

its no more stupid then anything else people will do. Personally i think The people that appear on Fear Factor have mild retardation. I understand the scientist wanting to know more. If its just a person coming out of the trailer to film it then well cant say much more. i wouldnt gage this as being stupid though due to i have seen much worse.

  3. Mr. H. Fusion says:

An interesting bit about the third picture, the Palm Sunday Tornado in Elkhart (15 miles east of South Bend Indiana). The northern and central area was hit with 11 tornadoes that day. If you look closely you will see the Elkhart tornado is actually a double tornado. At one point just outside of South Bend, there was a large tornado with 5 smaller tornadoes dancing around it. This was witnessed by several people as well as verifies by marks on the ground (see pictures below).

More pictures of the tornadoes and aftermath may be found at:

A little scary when I think that several of these F4s passed within 20 miles of my house.

    They have to photoshoped

  5. Mr. H. Fusion says:

NOTE: I meant to say that the 11 tornadoes were in the Northern and North Central areas of Indiana. The swath of tornadoes that day covered Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

Tim, the site carefully point out those that have been digitally altered and those that have not been.

    Mr. Fusion–

I was in high school in Indianapolis when the Palm Sunday tornadoes of 1965 hit northerrn and central Indiana, not to mention Michigan, Ohio, and several other Midwestern states. That’s one reason I live in the Southwest, where tornadoes are rare.

Good summary of the outbreak from NOAA here (Includes the TH04 picture of twin tornadoes above):

I apologize to all. I turned on Bold and didn’t turn it off. Damn, not a good day here.

I must agree, after recently seeing how criminally stupid some “sk8r boi”s are…

How often do people like this wind up in the Emergency Room of their local hospital?

Oh well, so much for pasting-in YouTube’s URL…

I was 9 years old in 1965 and remeber vividly the storm that passed about 7 miles to the north of our home near Lima, Ohio. I have never seen a storm quite like it since. So much vivid continuous lightening with colors of green, orange, blue and white. The Palm Sunday outbreak killed at least 11 people in our county and did F4 damage. I remember touring the area after it was reopened to the public and saw the devastation first hand. I remember one house totally blown away from the first floor level up and only an upright piano standing in the middle of it all.
