A BEIJING man, who was bitten by a dog and by its owner, was compensated 14,000 yuan (US$937.50) after Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court pronounced its final judgment yesterday, Xinhua news agency reported.
The petitioner for the first trial, who was identified as Huo, was bitten by a dog in November 2004.
Huo suffered another bite, but this time it was from the dog’s owner, Liu, following a quarrel they had.
According to the reports, Liu bit Huo on his face and caused a 2-centimeter cut on Huo’s left cheek, all the while Liu’s dog gnawed on his left calf. The two wounds caused Huo a sick leave of 17 days and led to a salary loss of 5,400 yuan, as well as an 8,000 yuan bonus, besides the 600 yuan he spent on the medical treatment.
The court found Liu liable and ordered him to compensate Huo for the damages caused by his dog. However, the court found Liu and Huo both equally at fault for their behaviors during their fight, Xinhua said.
I’m glad that’s settled.
this seems much more resonable than the 15 million people get here in the states for issues like this.
Don’t forget about the G.I. who was just sentenced to 90 days for hard labor for letting his dog bark in the face of a detainee.. Appearently making your dog bark in someones face is considered abuse and is punishable by the UCMJ.. Another guy got 6 months for a similar crime..
I think we should just ban dogs altogether.. or at least get them out of the hands of police and the military who are prone to using them for abusive purposes

The jury awarded the Greenups $400 in economic damages, $6,000 in non-economic damages for pain and suffering and $50,000 in punitive damages.
Greenup had originally sued for $1.5 million in a landmark lawsuit seeking compensation for ‘loss of companionship’, an award usually only allowed in the loss of a spouse or close family relation.
Instead of banning dogs, maybe we should ban our GI’s from the Middle-East. Support the troops by bringing them home.
