What’s up with the old school font?

  2. Special Ed says:

Screw Adobe! You may not want to go online for Adobe but this is certainly worth the price (free!): http://www.sumopaint.com/web/

  3. B.Dog says:

I use an old version of Photoshop elements, because I’m used to it. Picassa3 is a lot of fun and is free as well as amazingly fast.

  4. deowll says:

Sorry. It does not seem to be a memory leak. Th OS just uses most of your ram when doing check disk. MS seems to have thought that if you suspected the drive was failing and wanted them to fix it you might actually want them to throw nearly all the system resources into fixing the drive. Some people disagree.

If Apple needed the loan to stay in business then Gates did save them. Gates most likely didn’t want all the competition to go extinct and turn MS into a total monopoly with all the pain that can bring from various regulatory agencies.

  5. ECA says:

Gates has thrown them money a few times..
SAVE the competitor, so you DONT have to deal with the gov..about ALL THOSE OTHERS you stomped on.

    John,

The Sony camera? Its the hipsters most essential party tool. Why waste all your time photographing your friends to upload to facebook. The camera will do all the dirty work for you. Awesome.

  7. Named says:

    John,

Regarding MS saving Apple. I can’t believe you don’t remember this…

chkdsk.exe and explorer.exe (which runs chkdsk) leak like a sieve when there is a second disk with read and verify. Hmmmm. MS says update your firmware. This still happens when running under VM’s so no one is believing MS. Bottom line, no Win7 delay because they’ve shipped leaky products before.

MS saved Apple – more like they didn’t kill Apple when they had the chance. Same thing with IBM not killing Microsoft when they had chance (twice actually). I don’t buy either. Both companies found markets and thrived when they had the chance – most companies die because they kill themselves.

  9. Brian says:

I’ve used paint.NET for some things, and GIMP/GIMPShop for others. inkscape is a very good vector drawing tool. no reason to pay hundreds of dollars for “professional” software.

  10. Belgrove says:

IT’S NOT Photoshop Elements that is to be discontinued, but “Photoshop Album Starter Edition” that is to be — or was, as of June 30th.

The program was a very primitive version of Lightroom based online, and it was for those who couldn’t afford to buy any of the Photoshop products.

As this page describes, PASE users are encouraged to buy one of the three PS products, one of which is Photoshop Elements:

    John,

Memory leak is when a program uses memory but does not release it when closed. That means less memory for other programs to work with until no memory is left and things crash.
