I don’t listen to anything Microsoft or its shills say any longer. It simplifies things.
My laptop’s got a Celeron 550 single core and most of the time it is plenty fast. It supports 64-bit and I’ve got 4 gigs of PC5300 from when I had 64-bit Linux installed.
The only thing that slows it down is McAfee. Every once in a while it just freezes for 3 seconds.
Yeah, I will prolly upgrade sometime here, but I’m waiting for triple- or quad-core or something significant to justify it.
The reason people aren’t upgrading is that the old hardware does what they want to do with no problems.
A seven or eight year old PC running XP with a single core and gig of ram or even 512 can run Office 2007 with no strain. A lot of people are using Google apps anyway. The old clunker can handle browsing the web.
If they are barely going to notice the difference why spend money when money is tight?
A lady I know just not a “new” refurbished machine for about $120. It does everything she wants done.
Sure I want a quad core with 8 or more gig of ram but even I know I don’t need it. I have bought some large volume hard drives for external back up.
John, You could move to a state with no income tax and sells tax at about the same level as California. A lot of people are doing that.
It isn’t how much you make; its how much you get to keep that matters.
I would upgrade if I had some extra money, but I DON’T! My old, very old machine is a dog!
Nice Column on Market Watch John.
Whats this, Yahoo Pipes?
Hmmm, I can have some fun programming without any programming skills? Oh wait, why bother, as you always say, in a year or so they will be shutting it down and we will all be saying… wow that thing sounds cool, I would have used it it… IF I KNEW IT EXISTED!!!
