FAA radar track sequence of a bank of FedEx aircraft getting into Memphis as thunderstorms pass over the airport

  1. ECA says:

    Lemmings to the feeding trouff

  2. Eideard says:

Some of those flights looked like Brownian Motion. Is that allowed by FedEx?

  3. Jim W. says:

they look just like ants! lol

  4. Awake says:

Don’t admire the pilots and Fedex as much as the Air Traffic Controllers!

  5. Nik says:

MEM Approach looked like they were shooting for some “sucker holes” as that level 5 started running through.
    Bravo to ATC!

  6. Scoreboard says:

Unless this is Memphis Africa, thunderstorms don’t move from East to West. This is promotional hype from FedEx. If this was actual FAA radar track, you’d see transition flights to other nearby airports.

  7. RTaylor says:

Damn it, that was my new hard drive they diverted!

  8. Steph says:

the only redeeming quality of that little ditty was the music.

in fact, i didn’t even watch it … i was too busy shaking my ass.

  9. Mark T. says:

Very cool! Thanks for sharing it with us.

I noticed only one aircraft diverted to DFW. It must have been a 747 looking for a bigger airport.

And I agree with the others comments – my hat is off to the air traffic controllers. Well done!

  10. blank says:

Hey Scoreboard, storms don’t always move from West to East…just witness the weird weather pattern we’ve had over the Mid-West for the past week.

I think this is a cool video, I liked it when the storm finally reaches Memphis and you see the inbound planes just scatter like someone sprayed Raid all over the area and the ants were running away.

  11. Jim C says:

Looks like a real traffic flow. Memphis center can filter out non FedEx aircraft. This video is no big deal, Happens all the time. I know, I am a retired Air Traffic controller for ZME ( Memphis Center)

  12. John Wofford says:

It still amazes me that the end plan for all that movement is still masterminded by human minds. And it was cool that they kept landing aircraft right up to storm passage.

  13. Devin M says:

Yeah FedEx air traffic controllers are pretty good. I work at the memphis FedEx hub, I am pretty sure I was there that day. Thye will try and sqeeze as many plans in before a strom. This is because if it rains over a certian amount or there are lighting strikes within a certian distance they have to shit the ramp down, so even if the plane could land there would be no one out to taxi it i or unload it.

  14. rwilliams254 says:

“they have to shit the ramp down” I’d hate to be there for that! Imagine the clean up crew.

  15. gloria says:

Keep your eyes and ears opened in the near future, our US goverment wants to cut the pay and staffing of the controllers that work traffic like this everynight.. And they want to put our skies in the hands of the the private sector!!! Scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pay Attention!!!!!
