What is the U.S. Green Card Lottery?
Each year, the Diversity Lottery (DV) Program makes 50,000 immigrant visas available through a lottery. If you receive a visa through the Diversity Visa Lottery Program you and your family will be authorized to live and work permanently in the United States.

Can someone explain this to me?

I checked this USAFIS.org website yesterday and, just for fun, entered my details to see if I was eligible to participate. When I saw that a credit card number was required I logged off and thought it was weird.
40 minutes later a telemarketer from USAFIS called me and started to ask a lot of questions (my studies, if I’m married, my job etc.). he was nice but I’m always suspicious when telemarketers are too nosy (and too NICE!!!)….. turns out I was right because he quickly asked me for my credir card number which of course I refused to give. Suddenly he became less polite and very pushy …. so i just hung up on him.
This morning a lady from the same site called me AGAIN and I just told her not to call my number again. I hope that will do!
I just visited the official US Governement website and saw that it’s impossible to apply for the Green Card Lottery at this time of the year….. which is the proof that USAFIS is a total scam.

Anyone wondering if devsmith’s comment (above) about them not misusing your credit card just need to read some of the earlier posts. They’ll keep taking your money unless you cancel the card. And they’ll keep calling unless you change your number! Seriously, you can ask them to stop calling you, but they won’t, year after year after year. For anything else, I’ll just repost my comment from a few months back so it stays in view 🙂 Finally, any fraudster will post a positive comment, just as I told you before…

duparella said, on May 7th, 2009 at 5:00 am

I’ve enough experience of USAFIS to know they’d post any positive review, above! Give me a break… It’s not a case of people not reading the instructions or not saying don’t contact me. People do say that, but any fraudster will keep calling! Do you honestly think Nigerian scammers will stop asking for your bank details if you email them back and say, “Please stop writing to me”? If it seems too good to be true, it is. USAFIS is FRAUDULENT. If it’s not, let’s see a list of directors posted. Oh, but they’ll be bogus, too. When asked for a copy of an official US Government receipt they sent some phoney Word document that anyone could have made by cut ‘n’ paste from a PDF of a real document. They never stop calling, never stop emailing, even when you write back and say I got a green card already! Or if you just say you use a real attorney they still have people who barely speak English call you. Maybe they have a call center in India now! When, oh when, will the FBI or some official agency shut them down? Seriously, their reputation precedes them, yet they’re so brazenly hiding behind some borders somewhere, getting away with calling from third countries and all that. The only way they can continue to make money is to lure people who don’t know better, like those who can least afford it. Do yourself a favor, get a real attorney to file your paperwork for anything from $200 to $500. Or just do it yourself for free, online! And please, someone in the US investigative services, shut these people down. Or at least legislate so they can’t disguise their website to look official!

  8. USAFIS is defenitly a scam, just make a web search with their name and SCAM and you will get 1000 of hits. If you apply with them they will call you and offer to help you with your interview process for $700 and that is before the lottery takes place, i.e. before you have any chance of winninng 🙂

  9. Colin Saunders says:

Everyone thinks that once you apply through any privately held firm you will get the Green Card. However, it is not possible for anyone to guarantee a green card. As it is done randomly through lottery process and the winners are chosen by computer. People take services to make sure that their application for the Green Card lottery process is accepted/approved. Experts ensure that your application is properly filled and information on the form are properly done. More than 25% of the applications get rejected and are not allowed in the lottery process due to wrong information and human errors. Professionals make sure that your application is error free and you are free from the burden of handling all the paperwork. So, do not get mistaken, USAFIS ensures or guarantees that your application is accepted for the lottery process.

Usafis – DONT TOUCH!! Their business philosophy is unethical – they prey on unsuspecting/ vulnerable people by reeling them in without shame or conscience. They feel nothing for the customer, is NOT transparent, and in there sales approach is devious in the extreme!

Plus they are an EU company pretending to be American! How on earth can an EU company get you a green card???!!!

    Stay well clear!

  12. Vijesh Sharma says:

USAFIS provides Green Card Application screening service which ensures that your application gets selected for the Green Card Lottery Program. I saw the site, looks ok. At no point they guarantee Green Card, people must understand that their service makes sure that application is approved for lottery process. They also offer other optional services like english learning etc. If opted will have to pay and that’s fair enough. If you don’t want then do not opt for their service.

  13. Colton Huge says:

USAFIS provides green card application proofreading service to its clients to make sure that there application is accepted for the lottery process. Do not be mistaken, they do not guarantee any green card but they guarantee successful participation in the process. No one can guarantee you a green card. Also, if at all you do not want any service, then you can simply say no for that. Nobody can force you to buy something which is not needed. Simply say no.

  14. Nadia says:

how can i join the program, please send me an email

  15. Scammer Hater says:

USAFIS is indeed a scam organisation. I was very lucky for not providing my Credit Card number and my personal ID to this bogus company. 5 years ago, I was discovered USAFIS ads when I was busy surfing the net looking for information about how to find a job in United States and suddenly their ads pops up and attracting me to click it. And then I read all of the contents on the website and its amazed me. So I decided to register. After that I was surfing the net trying to find out is this agency is a scam or not? And what I found out on the net was suprising and yes it is a scam organisation that rips off money from those fools’ credit cards who are desperate to move to the United States and I was very lucky for not submiting my credit card number in the online application form. One hour later USAFIS representative rang me up and greets me politely (A woman). Then she asked me “Are you interested to immigrate to the United States?” and I said “Yes I do”. Then she asked me again “Do you like McDonalds?” and I answered “No I don’t, I prefer A&W instead”. She asked me again “Are you working” and I answered “Yes”. Then she said “Oh Mr X, can you please provide us your credit card number in order for us to complete your registration?” I said “Sorry, my credit card had expired”. She asked me again “Can you please provide us you expired credit card number please?” I really really speechless and decided to lie to her and said “Sorry my credit card is missing somewhere and I was unable to find it right now. Can you please call me tommorow afternoon?” Then she said “Okay Mr X, we’ll call you tommorow.
And they really call me the next day and the day after the day and so on with strange phone number. I decided not to pick up the phone when this strange number appeared on my house phone. I did it until two months passed and after that, they’re not calling me anymore and they just spam some garbage ads in my email that I must clean up every weeks. Bottom line is, please do some research before you decide yourself to register something on the net.
