BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Complaints over Britney sculpture — This is rich!

A nude sculpture depicting singer Britney Spears giving birth to her son has prompted a flood of emails from both pro-choice and anti-abortionists.

Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston will be unveiled at New York’s Capla Kesting Art gallery in April.

Gallery co-owner David Kesting said they had received 3,000 emails, some from “pro-life” supporters who thought it was degrading to their movement.

He added that other people were “upset” the sculpture was a pro-life monument.

And of course being pro-life means being politically correct — no pop icons please! What jerks.

  1. Marc Perkel says:

What – no complaints from PETA over the bear?

  2. Jim Petersen says:

I’m confused. Is it politically correct to be pro-life, or pro-choice?

  3. Mr. Fusion says:

I don’t know why the “pro-choice” movement complained. That wasn’t explained either.

And I sure don’t understand why the “anti-choice” movement had anything to complain about. Is giving birth somehow abnormal? Or would it be because she didn’t give her baby up for adoption to some loving, white, Christian home.

  4. Angel H. Wong says:

    Eeeew!

that’s not the type of nude Britney Spears image I want to see!

  5. jasontheodd says:

It shows the more idealized teenage Britney’s upper torso and muscle tone, and not the chubby crack whore look she has had for the last few years. Anyway, birth is a magical moment for those involved, but sorta gross for everybody else.

  6. Thomas says:

Um…I am pro life and I’m not a bombing abortion clinic hippy. Listen, America has freedom of opinions. Both sides need to shut the fuck up about the other side.

  7. rctaylor says:

The damn thing is just pro-bad taste. Thank God I haven’t seen the thing from the rear, with the head crowning.

  8. akern233 says:

I’m wondering why people actually care.

  9. Beelzebub says:

i’m also confused. How can the two oposite sides of an arguement both start with PRO? Think about it, what if it was Pro-life vs ANTI-life.
    its like the old joke/question:
If firefighters fight fires, and, crimefighters fight crime, what do freedom fighters fight?

  10. John Wofford says:

Whats with the bear? Didn’t it say she was depicted giving birth? She birthed a BEAR?
    Damn…

  11. don says:

    nice ass

  12. Alex says:

As long as they don’t play her music I don’t give a crap about the statue. I just have to wonder about the “artist” who thought this was a good idea. I think the fact that he “admires her” says it all.

  13. V says:

I’m not impressed at all. Now, if they sculpted her fully clothed it’d be another story. I don’t believe we’ve ever seen that one before.

  14. alphgeek says:

    To 9:

Yes…and what if it was pro choice vs ANTI choice?…think about it…

And to answer your question – what do freedom fighters fight? Pro-lifers.

And to 6: I’ve never heard of a pro-choice activist bombing a church so maybe YOU need to shut the fuck up?.

CAN SOMEBODY POST ME A LINK WITH A SHOT OF THAT SCULPTURE’S VAGINA???

  17. Floyd says:

It’s been said that the best art is controversial; this guy has certainly passed that test. He has both pro-life and pro-choice people riled up. Whether it’s really art is a subjecive matter.

I wonder whether the sculpture will survive public viewing. I have a suspicion someone will try to destroy it.

  18. James Hill says:

Where’s the sculpture of her husband passed out in the corner?

  19. Dark Firebird says:

To James Hill -> I hear that will be the pro-choice’s response to this statue.

  20. Mike says:

Since when did pro-life mean “anti-choice”? I haven’t met too many pro-lifer who have said you shouldn’t have the choice to have sex or not.

  21. Zuke says:

    Beezlebub – that was great!

I think the whole Pro-vs.-Pro thing is dumb too. IMO, it should be the Pro-Abortionists vs. Anti-Abortionists. That is more honest and to the point.

Though everyone knows what it means, Pro-Choice is too non-specific and PC.

  22. Vince says:

    To Mike:

Wait, wait, you can choose NOT to have sex?!?

Why the heck would you want to do that?

  23. meetsy says:

Give me a break…the artist “admits ” — to using references that include the wax figure of a pole-dancing Britney at Las Vegas’ Madame Tussauds.

The guy is a perv, and he’s never seen a woman IN LABOR. Let’s glamorize it and do a Holllywood makeover. Where is the SWEAT, the grimmacing, the blood, the overall real experience of it? And, how come no one shoots the behind view…is the baby’s head not shown, or is it dangling out……?

The “artist” just looking to make a buck……and get a few seconds of fame….. it sure isn’t immoralizing motherhood…as few mothers LOOK like that, before, during or AFTER birth.

  24. Jeremy K. says:

Yeah meetsy, artists are just supposed to make works of art and not show them to the public.

And if I want to see immortalized motherhood, I’ll just watch a “when mothers give birth” documentary on Discovery. If it’s literal, where’s the art in that?

  25. secular trout says:

this sculpture is supposed to be pro-life? i can think of o better argument for access to abortion then britney spears breeding.
