IS this the filthiest fast-food joint in Australia? Countless discarded brown paper bags and burger wrappers lay strewn across the floor, piled up in trampled heaps around the tables and chairs. Abandoned soft drinks, squashed chips and other rubbish cover the table tops as diners sit eating amidst the detritus. Welcome to McDonald’s on Hindley St. These pictures were taken in the dining area at 3am last Sunday by Adelaide law student Jeremy Brown while on a night out with friends.

After entering the premises for a snack, the 22-year-old Hawthorndene resident said he was so disgusted by what he saw that he decided to film it on his mobile phone. “I went in there and we were all aghast how grotty it was, and I thought I’d capture it on film because people wouldn’t believe how messy it was,” he said. The video has since been posted on the internet site YouTube, attracting a worldwide audience. Mr Brown said McDonald’s employees had told him that the filthy area was a regular occurrence.

Gag! Can someone say Health Department?

Man, it is hard to find good help now days.

  2. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Possibly a franchisee is about to lose his store.

Oh, and the plural of fly is….

    [Fixed – thanks…ed.]

  4. bobbo says:

I wonder if the trash cans are full and whether or not this evening was after “the big game.”

    Its always in the details.

  5. paper bagger. says:

Rather see it there than on my lawn after the wind catches it from being thrown out the window.

  6. Rob (AU) says:

Let me see, Oh Yeah, he didn’t show the food preparation areas. They are always clean.

I actually know this Macccas as I too live in Adelaide. 3am on Saturday night/Sunday morning has to be one of the busiest times for this store, however .. they have two security guards as no staff are allowed in front of the counters at all for safety reasons, about every half to one hour or so they call cleaners (supplied by the council) to come in and clear up the mess, the mess is from the customers – who are too lazy to use the bins (trash cans) between every third table and at the exit.

I don’t know how it works in the USA, here we are given a tray with the meal on it take to our seats. It’s simple, when finished just put the entire tray and remains into the tray bins next to the seats or at the exit, yet most people at that time on Hindley St seem to think it’s better to just shove it onto the floor.

This not the McDonalds franchisees’ error, they either close at an earlier time or remain open and do what they are doing, which is keep the staff behind the counter. I have seen some people jump the counter, some thing that stopped when security was added.

  7. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Rob, there are creative ways to solve this problem, if the store manager sees it as a problem. #1, raise the prices when that crowd arrives.

If security is such an issue, what’s wrong with these idiot customers? Are they “British football fans”…IOW the stupidest and drunkest morons on earth?

….that’s what we sophisticated sports fans in the US think, anyway… lol

  8. Jumpin' Jersey Joe says:

I imagine this could be the case in any McDonalds in the USA after a huge crowd of idiotic, pig stye louts came in and decide to be their usual asshole selves and literally trash the place.

BUT, it would be an extremely RARE case here. I’ve seen busloads of kids after football games arrive and definitely NOT abuse a quick food place, like McDonalds or, a Wendy’s.

  9. Zybch says:

#8 – Prices are set not by the individual franchise owners but by head office, so thats not going to work.
This is a case (as #9 says) of a bunch of fucking pigs, of which there seem to be more and more these days, who don’t deserve to be let free to roam the streets.
Its most likely the same idiots each week and they should be reported to the cops and individually fined more and more each time till they learn to be human or stop coming to this particular outlet.

  10. Nimby says:

    # 9 Jumpin’ Jersey Joe said,”definitely NOT abuse a quick food place, like McDonalds or, a Wendy’s.”

Absolutely right, JJJoe. We prefer to let the fast food joint abuse the consumers.

  11. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

#10…fines=price increase, same idea with different payee. 🙂

  12. Arous says:

Love it! Just push the wrapers onto the floor! I wonder, do they then take the empty tray to the collection area near the trash bins?

  13. bobberino1 says:

Let’s face it- If you are eating this stuff on a regular basis your insides look worse than the seating area.

  14. deowll says:

Okay #6 has it covered. If the customers act like a troop of wild baboons there isn’t a lot the staff can do to prevent it.

  15. orangetiki says:

Australians are the new Americans I take it

  16. thePenguin says:

    Photoshopped!

  17. bill says:

When I was in OZ last, they called McDonalds “the American Embassy”
But I was near Sydney and It was spotless and the staff was great and happy to have a job.
But I thought that was a pretty appropriate name for the place. That along with the ‘American Excess’ office..

Hey! its just some kids having fun! right?

  18. GF says:

Maybe the should sell adult diapers too. It looks like their customers could use them.

  19. Milamberota says:

Give me a shotgun and a broom and i’ll clean it. even move from ym nice sunny queensland to do it 😀
