Apparently the cell shown is the one being held for Richard Cheney, formerly a Congressman from Wyoming, then later a resident of Texas, and now of Virginia.
Just looking at that cell, imagine the difference between staying in that tiny miserable place for the rest of your life, as opposed to a ‘zap it’s over’ death sentence.
he will just BUY the prison, and be released to go any place he wishes…
Probably kick out MOSt of the other prisoners, and invite his family to spend time with him.
Anyway, it reminds me of how lucky we are in these times: The difference between being rich vs middle vs actually poor.
Rich = Madoff’s Digs/Rolls Royce Cars
Middle = You and Me/Roof & Heat/Toyota
Actually Poor = 95% of World/Hovel/No car, No Bike
This really hit me while traveling in Europe. The difference between a Rolls Royce and the worst Fiat was nothing compared to the HEAVEN of not being on foot. Same later that night. The difference between the Castle and a dry spot in a tool shed was nothing compared to the HEAVEN of not being outside in the rain.
Let the rich be rich as long as we in the middle are not driven to poverty.
Not my idea of cushy but adaquate. I’d like a radio or laptop hooked to the net and some earphones but other than that better than it might have been but it could have been much worse.
#6: Well put! Life’s a matter of perspective. Some days, I get the feeling life kinda sucks, but then I remember that I have a car, a computer, a television set, a roof over my head, food on the table… and many in the world don’t even have rags to wear.
#8–Oven==yes indeedy. Its often said that other than the control over other people, the average person in USA lives better than the King of France in the 19th Cent. About all he had was music, but no Rock or Reggae!!
#10. Yes, I agree too. But then when you have been poor, you tend to appreciate things more than when they are handed to you…maybe we should start a cult.
#11–Well, its all “relative” and thats where “traveling” really does provide prospective. It finally came home to me in Mexico. First night there outside our hotel people were living in cardboard boxes and begging for food. The next day on tour I sat next to an assistant consular officer from Sweden and I told him my Mexico vacation was being ruined because of the rank poverty. He laughed and said: “I just came from a posting in Africa. There they have no cardboard or boxes and they sleep without shelter and they are too weak to beg. Mexico looks pretty good to me.”
So, “things can always be better or worse, count your blessings.” I’m with Oven on this: given a choice I might screw up and choose the be the King of France, but I really would miss the interweb and my music collection and my choice of international food and health care, and my capacinno maker etc.
How can we complain except those other bastards have more?
Been around the world a couple of times and seen things that might make people in the US think twice about pissing and moaning about meaningless things.
Never saw the “no cardboard” people but have seen refugee camps with thousands of people living in them.
I’m pretty damn fortunate.

Here is what Gary Shapiro CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) said: Dvorak's writing sings with insight and clarity. Whether or not you agree with John's views, he will get you thinking and is never boring. These essays are worth the read!

Hopefully, ‘Bernie’ got a visit from Bubba last night to work on that smug grin.

Is that a frickin’ Club Fed dorm room? It looks too clean for a regular prison cell.
