On Glenn Beck’s radio show last week, I quipped in response to our wayward federal government, “I may run for president of Texas.”
That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.
From the East Coast to the “Left Coast,” America seems to be moving further and further from its founders’ vision and government.
“We view ourselves on the eve of battle. We are nerved for the contest, and must conquer or perish. It is vain to look for present aid: None is at hand. We must now act or abandon all hope! Rally to the standard, and be no longer the scoff of mercenary tongues! Be men, be free men, that your children may bless their father’s name.”
Thanks to Carcarius for the tip!
Hmmm, Chuck smart. Chuck say good things. Chuck make me feel all warm inside. I like when 3rd rate action stars teach me about history and politics. It make me feel smart.
Isn’t Texas the only state that can legally secede from the union?
Hmmmmm
#2, Actually, no. It has the option to break up into five smaller states, thus increasing their representation in the senate.
It IS the only state that joined the Union by treaty, being a sovereign nation first. I suppose there might be a case for breaking the treaty it has with the Union.
I am sure most of that is no longer viable since Reconstruction, though.
Some countries already use Chuck’s poo for currency.
The Texas culture already has seceded from the union. That’s just how we roll out here.
If Ron Paul is in their government I’m moving in.
Most of the “red” states receive more federal aid than they contribute in taxes. Let them leave–please!
We should have let the south go and not fought the civil war. The CSA would now be a 3rd world nation. They’d probably be getting rid of the institution of slavery about now. . . .
Chuck Norris doesn’t run for office. Office runs for Chuck Norris.
Ah, here it is. I was wondering when this story would be posted.
No, Texas cannot legally secede from the USA. Texas could legally secede until the Civil War, at which time it did secede, along with the rest of the South. Unlike the rest of the South, though, after the Civil War Texas was officially conquered territory, not a returning state. It’s the only officially conquered territory in the USA, and it doesn’t get to leave again ever. Officially.
#9: I haven’t checked for numbers, but I’m guessing that Texas brings in more $ than we spend on them, on account of their oil production. But that’s just my guess. Not going to do this so called “research”.
Maybe he could put in a job application to be a Texas Ranger if his agent did the writing for him.
Chuck Norris was a Texas Ranger. He had to kick the bad guy in the head ten times before they went down, but at least it looked good.
# 2 Mr Diesel said, “Isn’t Texas the only state that can legally secede from the Union?”
No, there is no Constitutional provision disallowing ANY state to secede. Thus, any state could leave.
#12 you do have an argument but the courts would actually have to figure this one out.
the treaty that brought Texas into the union is still in effect and would actually make a very good case for a law student or a hell of a suit.
As a Texan I am with Chuck if the Federal govt keeps grabbing power like it has for the past 40 years and especially in the last 51 days, I am all for a Lone Star country.
just a little something to chew on, if 27 states so decide they can dissolve the federal govt at any time, and right now 27 states have sent notice to the federal govt that it has overstepped its constitutional bounds
Actually, Texas will be given back to Mexico, along with Arizona, New Mexico, and California. MALDEF had one of their litigation attorneys appointed as the top civil rights enforcer. Already, they are suing Sheriff Arpaio for going after illegals.
I thought Texas put Mexico up for sale on eBay last week.
That’s one of Bruce Lee’s disciples who actually thinks with his fists.
From the East Coast to the “Left Coast,” America seems to be moving further and further from its founders’ vision and government.
Like so many right wing nuts, if they disagree with the Constitution, then it must be everyone else that is wrong.
Why can’t the right wing nuts accept any responsibility for their own actions?
Texas was not part of the Confederate states of America and did not secede from the union.
Ronald Reagan was a third rate actor and made a pretty good governor and a darn good President. He was not a mensa candidate any more than Bush was, The job is to lead, not be the best at every job rolled into the Government. You hire people for that.
Obama has been particularly BAD at getting competent people. We now know why Dems like to raise taxes, they don’t pay them anyway.
#22, Confederate Traitor,
Most are unaware of the 10th Amendment and the Uniform Commercial Code.
Unfortunately, most Leibertarians only read and acknowledge the part they like. And whatever the UCC has to do with this is beyond me. The UCC is a State endevour done by all 50 States, not a Federal Statute.
Why do you hate America?
It does not matter if Texas can or cannot secede. If we choose to leave then we will. I believe we should. If you beleive you should fight this out in court, you won’t live long enough to see a change. With all the legal power that America has she has continued to fall, just look at the rights you have lost in the past ten years and the debt your great grand children owe. If America wants to fight about it then bring it on.
#26 Well said.
