Casualties of war could affect fall election

American casualties from the war in Iraq are having a profound negative impact on President Bush’s approval rating and might have a similar effect on his chances of re-election, a study by political scientists at Rice and Tufts universities indicates.

    Correlation <> cause-and-effect. Without controls for other factors likely to influence ratings, concluding that casualties are the main factor influencing public opinion isn’t warranted.

    Gee, its too bad that his approval rating is being affected. Probably not as much as the lives that are affected by the deaths of loved ones.
