This is the guy the conservatives were looking to run for Prez in 2012? If the Kenneth comparisons and his response being panned even by Republicans didn’t sink him, this will take him to the bottom. Hasn’t he heard that reporters — MSM and especially bloggers — do fact checking? Didn’t anyone from the RNC read his speech beforehand?

“Let me tell you a story.

During Katrina, I visited Sheriff Harry Lee, a Democrat and a good friend of mine. […] The boats were all lined up ready to go – when some bureaucrat showed up and told them they couldn’t go out on the water unless they had proof of insurance and registration. I told him, ‘Sheriff, that’s ridiculous.’ And before I knew it, he was yelling into the phone: ‘Congressman Jindal is here, and he says you can come and arrest him too!’ Harry just told the boaters to ignore the bureaucrats and start rescuing people.”

Really? Did this really happen? Let’s see what Jindal was saying in August-September of 2005, during the Katrina disaster.

Katrina hit when Congressman Jindal was returning from a foreign trip. His family evacuated to Baton Rouge, and met up with Jindal at his parents’ home. Two days after Katrina passed, Jindal took an aerial tour of the disaster area. It is not clear when he went back on ground. But it is highly unlikely that he was there during first few days. When did he go to this Sheriff’s office?

Lots more about this from various sides here.

  1. Guy Fawkes says:

Apparently he and Hillary Clinton have the same memory recall disease!

  2. Ah_Yea says:

    Somehow, I’m not surprised.

  3. sargasso says:

Has he at any time been a member of the Texas National Guard?

  4. Mr Diesel says:

No, but he has probably shot a VC in the back.

  5. Cursor_ says:

And we think its unusual for politicians to do this?

No freakin wonder the american public keeps buying their crap!

They ALL lie. It is the nature of the beast.

Real change will come only by doing what is truly hard. Dismantle the present system. Re-write a new constitution and make the system based on equal representation by economic lines and drop the 18th century ideologies.

  6. bobbo says:

#4–Diesel==nice reference. I’ve never understood how fighting in the jungles of Vietnam was disloyal whereas being AWOL from the Guard high on Cocaine was Presidential material.

    Could you explain?

  7. Dallas says:

Who gives a shit what gov Sanjaya and his lying, irrelevant party has to say. We are in a national crisis and no time to tune into the party that allowed this mess to happen.

Americans need to go around these lying GOP speedbumps we have on the road to recovery. They don’t want the recovery to happen as it will ensure their party’s demise for decades.

  8. amy says:

Do you think the stimulus and the housing plan will work? I wonder. The deficit is going up and inflation may be just around the corner. I saw a good article on this on

  9. MikeN says:

Note from DNC to the Left:

The Republicans have a minority as a spokesperson. Please destroy him any way you can, as we own those votes.

  10. bobbo says:

#9–Alfred==how do we know what we know, and how do we change our minds?

Excellent link to that video. The sheriff does say Bobby was in his office. What to make of the KoS evidence that Jingal was out of the country then in Baton Rouge?

Since YOU don’t know which story is true, by what value system do you come down on one side or the other?

Same with Obama. We all saw him campaign to the left then more central like most politicians do==first to the base, then to the electorate.

Since YOU don’t know what values really drive Obama, by what value system do you come down on one side or the other?

Why do you pontificate and proclaim when ambiguity is clearly present?

  11. Framecrash says:

I thought was amazed when I heard Jindal recall this story. It’s a wonder why Jindal didn’t switch parties right then, after experiencing the Bush administration’s response to Katrina for himself. Moreover, one would think that the GOP response to Obama would avoid mentioning Katrina at all costs, let alone cite an actual example of their incompetent, bureaucratic response during our country’s largest natural disaster ever!

  12. Mr. Fusion says:

    #9, Alfie,

The allegation he didn’t tell the truth is the lie, Jindal was endorsed by the Sherrif precisely because of his actions during Katrina:

Unfortunately, Jindal lied. And if the Sheriff lied too, that is doubly bad.

Jindal’s whereabouts were dissected and he wasn’t even in New Orleans during the time in question. Add to that that sever rescue teams from around the country were there in the area before FEMA got moving.

FEMA did hamper the situation in some ways, such as stopping tractor trailers full of ice and generators from entering the area. That though was more because of impassable roads and no distribution points set up.

Maybe Jindal helped during Katrina. Maybe he was just another bystander trying to get some free publicity. But damn, if you are going on National TV to toot your own horn, don’t get caught in a lie.

Jindal’s speech on the budget was a disaster. His lie is his deathblow to any higher personal ambitions. Single handed he probably lost another two or three Congressional seats in 2010

  13. Paddy-O says:

If the media REALLY wants to do fact checking on this, just interview Sheriff Harry Lee…

  14. CZen says:

15 – the media doesnt really care. They just want to discredit a republican.

14 – prove he lied. Alfred1 presented evidence suggesting he did not. And don’t give me biased reporting from Huffpo or DailyKOS.

  15. jcd'slovechild says:

Yes the DailyKos is a reliable source of news…if by reliable you mean supporting your “progressive” (i.e., communist) worldview and your love for BDS moonbats.

You guys are trying to dig up dirt on someone who you perceive as a potential threat…

  16. jcd'slovechild says:

#7 “Gov. Sanjaya”? That’s almost as clever as when Chris Matthews said the Republicans must have “outsourced” the response. I see, Jindal is from an newly immigrated family so it’s OK to pick on his ethnicity. Go back to your Mother’s basement and work on your “comedic” material.

With a name like yours and such prose you must be from Texas…

  17. Mr. Fusion says:

    #16, cz,

14 – prove he lied. Alfred1 presented evidence suggesting he did not. And don’t give me biased reporting from Huffpo or DailyKOS.

There is adequate response to your question referred to at the top of this post. If you don’t approve of the source that is your problem. HOWEVER, Youtube is NOT a reliable source in its own right. Anyone may make a video, that doesn’t mean there is any validity in what is said. So Alfie didn’t post any evidence.

Face it, Jindal was a very poor choice to rebut the Presidents speech. His delivery was way off, his posture was awkward, and he was caught in a lie.

It is a simple fact, people would rather hear the truth. If the speaker doesn’t know the answer, then “I’ll get back to you” or an “I don’t know” works. The last thing anyone wants to hear is obvious fudging of the answer. The thing no one ever wants to hear is they were lied to.

Them’s the facts! Deal with ’em.

  18. HughRipper says:

Curious to me that since Obama won the election, all these non WASP republican leaders have crawled out of the woodwork. Is this something co-ordinated by the party as a whole or have these chaps seen an opening and are going for it?

In any case, lying is second nature to those plying thier trade in the political machine. It wouldnt be right to let the Dems monopolise that!

  19. jehosaphat says:

Are you people not aware that Jefferson Parish is not only not in New Orleans, but between New Orleans and Baton Rouge?

  20. Uncle Dave says:

People, fact checking isn’t needed. You do know Jindal has now admitted he didn’t tell the truth, don’t you?

  21. Paddy-O says:

#22 – Cool. Where’s the interview? This should be interesting to watch.

  22. Paddy-O says:

I searched around and all I could find was people quoting an “unnamed source” refuting it. Anybody got a quote from the Sheriff or Jindal?

  23. Paddy-O says:

    Are you lying Uncle Dave?

  24. Alsatia says:

Jindal’s a lying sack of cowpat. This lie is, quite frankly, disgusting. Having lived through a category 4 hurricane & it’s aftermath, I can’t stress enough how much of a jackass he’s just made himself out to be to survivors of any disaster, natural or otherwise.

On the bright side, that takes care of him as the great multiculti hope of the RNC. Saves us all a lot of time, bullcrap & money. Just my .02, etc.
