Thinking of taking up the drums? Watch this first.
There are prodigies in all sorts of things, why not drums? That said there are numerous observations:
1) Who needs a band? Drums work.
2) Yes to the ear protection, good work!
3) The parents must be angels to put up with a drummer in the home
4) WOW
Ok…. I’m stunned. That’s a kid right? Wow! He’s like a super-fast super-good drummer on fire! Going faster than my eyes!
This is a must-watch…
Where’d you get this video Dvorak?
Hi, there’s a 6 year old drummer boy who busks in Singapore during his weekends to build up his confidence and he is really good. His dad is always with him, supporting him by the side. http://www.rsi.sg/english/checkout/view/20051223114846/1/.html
HOLEY CRAP! He’s too fast for the frame rate of that video!
Tony Royster JR is a living legend and has been for a couple of years now.
I wish my parents had forced me to play an instrument at a young age and not fed me until I learned my fill for the day. As it was, I had to beg and plead and didn’t start learning music until I was well into my teens.
It becoming harder and harder to find good drummers in the UK – I think this is true of most built up areas world wide. They are too noisy and expensive to allow Mr Joe Bloggs to learn. The only drummers I’ve met recently live in rural areas, or are incredibly wealthy and have a huge house or a garage they can convert and sound proof at a whim. 10 years from now all drummers will be farmers, or so rich they don’t need to actually be good enough to play professionally (might be an exaggeration).
Wow…. He could make most of the professional drummers out there hide in corners. It almost makes me wish my parents would have bought a drumset when I wanted it in my early years.
I’d hate to be in a band with him however…
To have achieved this level of mastery in a mere twelve years is awe inspiring. I have not seen a more technically proficient drummer.
Very Impressive, this kid has a bright future!
I saw this video on Google Video… it’s absolutley amazing how talented this kid is. Definitley iPod-video worthy.
Nice solo artist. I’m wondering what it would be like to play in a band with this kid. Can he keep time with a bassist/guitar player?
I’ve seen guitar prodigies that had amazing chops, but once the rest of the band came in, they fell apart.
It’s a shame.
Tony Royster, jr., the kid in the video, is now 21 years old. But he is certainly no less talented, judging from the people he’s playing with now. Check out his web site for more details. http://www.tonyroysterjr.com/
That kid was insane!! Did you see the drumsticks…they were almost as long as his arms!! Way to go kid!
Actually I just went to the website and it said 2005.
Ah…got ya. I thought you must have misread the year.
Tony’s doing great these days. It’s amazing where life can take you. I wonder what he’ll be doing when he’s 40? I hope that he sticks with it as long as he can still live a decent life with all that talent. The character that he showed as a child will get him far if he continues that way.
Exceptional !!! I’m speechless.
where can I buy his dvd?
Tony Royster Jr. is 21 now so this video is just slightly old. But yea, he’s a legend in the making.
tony i wanna be just like you…………………………………God bless you
Tony is the bomb, the boy can play, he can keep time and his phrasing is absolutely off the hook, he is a natural born child prodigy. He has played with the like of Dennis Chambers and Co. He is a respect drummer in today’s world. Way to Go Tony.
Peace
JR
Ok you’ve made me think, and I suppose thinking is good. Now I’m going to have to digest that a bit more before I decide what I’m going to do about it. Susan1962
