A E Interactive: REVIEW: ROLLING STONES (CENSORED) AT SUPER BOWL Land of the free, home of the brave network executives freak out over the most lame OLD Stones lyrics. Pathetic proof that fear of Government retribution has everyone scared to death. What does this tell you about our freedom of speech?

Four decades after they were censored on the nationally televised Ed Sullivan show, the Rolling Stones got silenced twice during their much-touted 12-minute Super Bowl Halftime show.

During “Start Me Up,” the racy last line about a woman so hot, “you make a dead man come,” was silenced. The come was bleeped out silently.

During “Rough Justice,” when Jagger asks with an already tamed double entendre if he’s a rooster, or “just one of your cocks” the cocks, a perfectly acceptable term for rooster, is blanked out.

This wasn’t like Ed Sullivan, when the band changed the lyrics to “Let’s Spend the Night Togther,” to “Let’s Spend Some Time Together,” but just as distasteful for rockers.

I haven’t seen anyone else complain about this, but I’m surprised. These lyrics have been played countless times on radio and Microsoft ads and weddings and sports games, with no complaints or offense to young ears

Note to wimps at ABC, these guys are in their 60’s!!

  1. Ascii King says:

Is the guy who posted this complaint the same guy that was making fun of the muslims for not liking the cartoons? Anyone else see any irony in this?

  2. Ben says:

They also removed the lyric from Satisfaction where he used to say “but he can’t be man, cause he don’t smoke the same cigarettes as me.” Not sure if this has been done by the band or by censors.

  3. site admin says:

Huh? What kind of nonsense comment is that???

  4. Sounds The Alarm says:

    I care because…..?

  5. Ascii King says:

I simply meant that we get worked up about things that have meaning to us, but can’t understand what all the fuss is about when other people do it.

I wonder if the Muslims over there care about the lyrics being censored.

  6. J. Cottrell says:

The muslims “over there” probably don’t care about the lyrics being censored, but that’s hardly relevant to this topic…

  7. Dan Collins says:

The censorship is about as lame as the Stones are.The game was played in Motown and they had the Stones play? All the great music the city has produced and they have those geriatric rockers play.Whats with that?I’m sure that Mick Jagger could care less if he was censored as long as the check doesn’t bounce.

  8. Shawn says:

Forget the Stones…I want John to admit he was wrong about this Super Bowl having no appeal – check out the ratings it got!

  9. Mr Mustard says:

Have you been nipping at the corn squeezin’s, Ascii King?

He posted the article about the morons censoring the Rolling Stones’ potty mouths, disgreeing with their actions. He posted the article about the Muslims trying to censor silly cartoons that nobody in their right mind should give a FF about, disagreeing with their actions.

I fail to see any irony. Looks like 2 out of 2, or 100% consistency to me.

  10. Jeremy Robbins says:

careful if you play music at wed’gs then you need to pay for it.

  11. Pat says:

Censorship of the Rolling Stones. Censorship of stupid racist cartoons. It is not these trivial small things I worry about, I couldn’t a flying f*** about the Stones. I worry about what the Government isn’t letting us see on TV or hear on the radio because it might offend somebody.

  12. Perhaps it is time for a name change, they are Rolling but they do not have any stones to speak of, Jim Morrison did not roll over like the Rolling does.

  13. cyberjack88 says:

Since we’re doing an info mashup. – do you really think the muslims would NOT have censored this as well?? They wouldn’t have let the Stones play at all…

Definition: ‘Info Mashup’ – where two pieces of unrelated info are mashed together into a meaningless non-factoid….
