Bronx Congressman Serrano — Kingmaker

Amendment Would Make Pres. Obama “King for Life” – The Times Examiner

Rep. Jose Serrano, D-NY, would make President Barack Obama President for life. Earlier this month the Congressman introduced H. J. Res. 5 that proposes an amendment to the US Constitution that would repeal the Constitution’s 22nd Amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President The U. S. House Committee on the Judiciary is considering the bill.

In 1807, Thomas Jefferson warned that presidents not bound by term limits could use their popularity and power to become kings.

Idiots like this Congressman, who should be voted out of office, do not realize that this sort of thing is a two-way street and some popular Republican could also be in office for decades. But this is obviously an attempt to ride the Obama horse for the next 40 years. Serrano also introduced a bill to ban any and all attempts to make English the official language of the nation. It’s called the English-plus resolution.

  2. Paul Camp says:

We got along for 150 years WITHOUT term limits. Limits were established by Republicans getting their revenge on Franklin Roosevelt. Was a bad idea then, and also when the Republicans floated the repeal notion during the Reagan administration, and also now. Term limits create lame ducks. Lame ducks foil the whole idea of checks and balances. Term limiting the executive branch without at least doing the same thing to the legislative and judicial branches did serious damage to the constitutional balance of power.

Besides, who are you to tell people they are voting for the wrong person? I opposed term limits when Reagan’s supporters tried to repeal them (and I hated Reagan) and I oppose them now.

#73, There is some truth in what you say about term limits shifting the balance of power. They should apply to all the branches or none at all.

One recurring thing I’ve noticed are those who who are afraid someone like Bush would remain in office forever. Or Obama, but I’ll stay with Bush.

If Bush had of run for a third term, he would have made history as the worse candidate in history. His approval was in the low 20s and hit 20% in one poll. This would have been the first time since Washington one candidate won every Electoral College vote.

If Obama ends up as unpopular by the end of his second term, I’m sure he would be replaced also. At the time, Roosevelt was the best thing for America. If he wasn’t, he would have been defeated and we would have had a President Dewey responsible for dropping the bomb on Japan.

At the time (Bush’s 2nd term) he was the best thing for America. If he wasn’t, he would have been defeated. LOL

  6. MikeN says:

PaddyO you need to read your Greg Palast. Then you’ll realize that Bush was defeated. Palast expertly demonstrated how Democrat counties in Florida with optical scan machines voted for Bush over Kerry, unlike Democrat counties in Pennsylvania.

First time I’ve seen Godwin’s Law invoked within a blog moniker. Whatever your point may have been, you lose.

  12. Mr. Fusion says:

The right wing nuts still haven’t accepted that the election is over. They lost. The Democratic Party not only won big time, but we will shape America in the way the majority want to see it.

    Less power for big corporations.

    Single payer health care.

    Well paying manufacturing jobs.

CEO bonuses a thing of the past.

Schools that teach subjects instead of for a standardized test.

Tariffs on commodities from dictatorships, civil rights abusers, and polluters.

    Less dependence on foreign energy.

    Lower drug prices.

    Health care for everyone.

A hand up instead of a kick down for the disenfranchised.

but most of all, an America we all can be proud of. If the right wing nuts don’t like it, too bad. Either offer some concrete suggestions or STFU.

What an IDIOT…I remember studying about those who fought a war to keep this country free and without a monarch!! Limiting terms of the presidency is manditory and should continue to be!!! And while on the subject, why not add the Senators and Congressmen also??? And change the law that says they continue to receive their same paychecks when they are not earning it?? I think also that every adult should either be gainfully employed or the can starve to death!! There are FEW reasons for wellfare. It is abused in absurd amounts to the laziest of individuals!! And remember, it comes out of the hard working individuals income!!!!!!
