Warning from Asda: This milk bottle contains, er, milk | Mail Online — I can assure you some lawyer thought this was advisable. “Just in case” or “better to be safe than sorry.”

In a nation seemingly overcome by health and safety paranoia, it’s only natural for shops to seek to protect themselves from litigious customers. So even the most inoffensive products can be plastered with warnings that they contain ‘nuts’, ‘eggs’, ‘ shellfish’ or some other potential allergen.

Asda, however, really is milking this trend for all it’s worth. Under the heading ‘Allergy advice’, plastic bottles of milk sold by the supermarket carry a serious warning — ‘Contains milk’.

Apparently, that the product is called milk and the milk is plain to see are insufficient signals to those who are dairy intolerant.

    Sad!

  2. Andrew says:

This is ridiculous. If judges would use common sense and throw out or refuse to hear stupid common-sense lawsuits we wouldn’t have this problem. Surprise! Coffee is hot when you order it! Water is wet, burgers contain beef, grass is green, etc etc.

  3. Timerever says:

LMAO, you know what’s funny? I noticed this way before, when I first came to UK. Hilarious.

  4. JFStan says:

This is like sleep aids that list drowsiness as a side effect. Y’Think!? 🙂

  5. fulanoche says:

Besides the written advisory, there should also be an audio one, just in case the consumer cannot read.

  6. SparkyOne says:

Pure coincidence, there being milk in the container.

  7. OvenMaster says:

Lawyers themselves should have warning labels pasted right on their foreheads.

  8. noname says:

With all the “Branding” business uses to sell products, it’s no wander the public needs an official statement of contents. The label can indeed say milk when it’s really caulk kool aid.

You just never know. You have to read the fine print on everything.

  9. BigBoyBC says:

Darn those dairy farmers, they’ve got milk in my milk! Now where in the heck am I going to get my daily supply of melimene and growth hormones?

  10. Mr. Fusion says:

And “Milk of Magnesia” uses magnesia cows?

The most ridiculous part is how all the wing nuts get their panties all bunched up their cracks. The simple regulations state that all products shall contain a list of ingredients and those specific foods which may cause allergies must be prominently displayed on the front.

This is not a case of some lawyer doing this to avoid a lawsuit. It’s the law. When you start making exceptions is when things get complicated.

  11. Uncle Patso says:

    Warning: May contain stupidity!

  12. Mr. Fusion says:

    #12. ‘dro,

I started to wonder if fish get thirsty.

    The answer is yes, sometimes.

Put a fresh water fish in salty water and they will die of thirst. Put a salt water fish in fresh water and they will drink themselves to death.

But you’ve always been the lowest on the intelligence scale.
