The kids are now with their grandmother
A husband and wife — who found a dog sitter for their new puppies but left their 10-year-old son home to care for his younger autistic brother while they celebrated the new year in Las Vegas — were arrested Wednesday, police said.
Jacob Calero and his wife, Michelle De la Vega, left Calero’s sons — Joshua, 10, and Jason, 5 — at their San Ramon home early Friday while the newlyweds headed out of town for a five-day trip, police said.
Joshua said he and his brother ate cereal for breakfast and cooked frozen dinners in the microwave for lunch and dinner. He said his dad and stepmother left Friday morning while they were asleep. They had asked him to watch his younger brother, but didn’t tell him where they were staying, he said.
I can’t say anything I would put in print.
I found an article about the mom. She sounds wacky:
“”I wanted to be an interior designer,” she explains, “but changed to dentistry because it’s also an art.” For de la Vega, the art of creating perfectly beautiful and healthy teeth is like painting, drawing and decorating.”

And unless there are two art feaks with the exact same name on the west coast, I’d bet she’s in this picture:

I’m all for the greater social good, but I do recognize the risks of tampering with natural selection.
Not in defense of the woman, but she is not the children’s mother. Is she as liable as the biological father for the children’s welfare? Betcha that’s gonna be a legal tangle. Sounds like Daddy split with a bimbo for the weekend, and yeah, he should be prosecuted to the fullest, but is the bimbo responsible?
To John Wolford’s comment:
Yes, she should be held responsible. She is, after all, an adult who should know better than to leave children of these ages (not to mention one who is autistic) alone. When she married their father she knew that she was taking on the role of a parent and she should be held to answer as a parent. The thing that gets me even angrier is that the father had his cell phone calls forwarded to his brother-in-law – how was anyone to get ahold of him in an emergency. It even took him 3 days to respond to the calls from the police.
My feeling is that the children should be taken from the irresponsible “adults” and given to someone who will love and care for them. Let Dad and Stepmom raise their puppies – as they seem to harbor enough responsibility to get a sitter for them. Shame on you, Jacob & Michelle Calero..
I read most ,if not all,of the stories, now I can make a comment …
Jacob prearranged the trip weeks ago and his wife’s family and his family thought that his exmother-in-law is babysitting them too.
Jacob said he does not really like to talk to his exmother-in-law (i could understand now why) and so, did not make his wife responsible for any decision regarding the kids. His and his ex-mother-in-law/grandma’s decision is too much already.
If grandma really cares about her grandkids, why did she exploit them on the media and even used them to get donation? Why didn’t she pick them up right away she said that , “Joshua called me Saturday morning and I found out that he was home alone”. So, why did she call the police Saturday night? Was she building a child endangerment case?
If she doesn’t get the kids, I guess CPS knows she is at fault. I feel sorry for the couple and the kids. We, the people, just ruined their lives based on the “sad stories” of an eccentric vengeful Liberata Holden.
