Remember the goofy miniature pot belly pig fad of nearly 20 years ago? While the reason for creating these mini cattle is a good one, let’s take bets on how long it will be until even smaller ones are bred and Paris Hilton starts a fad of walking her cattle down Rodeo Drive which sports a diamond studded collar.

By the way, doesn’t the term ‘farmette’ just make you cringe? And what real cowboy will want to work on one? Time to round ’em up in the back yard! Git along little doggies… Oops, them is doggies. Got ’em mixed up with the cattle.

Tiny Cattle: TRAPPE, Md. (AP) – If you’re a suburban cowboy hankering to raise a herd and short on ranchland, mini-cattle may be for you.

New breeds of pint-sized heifers and bulls are making it easier for small farmers to raise cattle for milk, meat or just fun. On Bill Bryan’s 20-hectare spread on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, he has sold seven calves this year.

“We’ve sold the vast majority of our calves to people who have these little three-to five-acre farmettes and they’ll fence in an acre, buy a calf and more or less keep ’em for pets,” Bryan said.

They’ve got friendly foxes too, won’t happen.

  2. Steve Newlin says:

A friend of my sister had one of those pot bellied pigs. It was distgusting. It’s a god damn pig. It smelled. It shit everywhere. It ate everything, EVERY thing, whether or not it was food. And if they eat too much, they get real big.

If it had been mine it would have been breakfast, but they were too attached to it to have it put down.

And now they make individual serving-size pats of butter and cups of milk.
