Scotsman.com News – Health – Spiceless Atkins diet ‘bores you thinner’

But experts today claimed that the fashionable Atkins diet probably only works because it is so boring.

Danish researchers said the dullness of the diet – which has found devotees in celebrities like Geri Halliwell, Robbie Williams, and Brad Pitt – was a likely explanation for why it helped people lose weight.

An estimated three million Britons follow diets like Atkins – which cuts out all carbohydrates such as bread and potatoes.

Let me get this straight. If you want a meal to be LESS boring you add bread and potatoes? On what planet does starch equate to spicy and interesting?? Or is this study just done to make sure the morning breakfast rolls (the ones we call a Danish) do not go out of fashion? Conflict of interest, seems to me.

And let’s not forget the other Danish health-conscious specialty food, french fries served with gobs of mayonnaise. Goes great with a cigarette and a Carlsberg in the morning.

    Actually, I think it’s a great way of describing Atkins. Because you have such a limited number of things you can eat, you lose interest in eating. It truly gets you into a “eat to live, not live to eat” mentality. It takes the fun out of eating. You open up the fridge/cupboard and look at what you can eat and wander away because it isn’t worth it. I’ve lost 65 pounds and counting…

    … until you start buying all the low carb (and low calorie) alternatives. Then it becomes pretty easy and a whole lot less boring. A couple years ago, it was tough as hell though before the manufacturers caught up with demand.

    20 -> 16% body fat and counting …
