UPDATE: The ground war has started. We originally posted this before today’s events. What now do you think will be the outcome?

While Israel needed to do something about it being attacked, are the air strikes with all the civilian casualties only creating more hatred and suicide bombers and such? What can possibly be the outcome of a house to house ground war in Gaza? Or is that prospect just posturing to pressure the people to oust Hamas, assuming they could?

Israel bombed a mosque and the homes of at least half a dozen Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip on Friday and allowed foreign passport holders to leave the ravaged territory, as speculation rose that a ground assault could be imminent.

Israel’s offensive in Gaza, which began last Saturday, has been carried out exclusively by air and by sea. After a day of heavy rain, the weather improved Thursday, and military analysts said Israeli tanks and other vehicles massed on Gaza’s border could more easily enter the territory.

“The forces are there, and they’re ready for anything,” said an Israeli military spokeswoman, Maj. Avital Leibovich.

Although Israel rejected a cease-fire proposal this week, there were signs Thursday that it was stepping up its diplomatic efforts. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni traveled to France, where officials have been leading an international campaign to persuade Israel and Hamas to hold their fire.

But there is pressure within Israel for the government to continue its campaign, and perhaps topple Hamas altogether. That would almost certainly require a ground operation, which would be likely to raise the death toll substantially on both sides.

“There is no way to take Hamas out without going into Gaza. The problem is the price,” said Yaakov Amidror, a retired Israeli major general who headed the military’s research and assessment division. “My feeling is that we should do it. All the other players in the region are wondering why we are hesitating if we are so strong.”

Hitler couldn’t win in Russia, what makes the zionazis think they can win in Gaza?

-this is just business as usual.

this is just to keep tensions high
so our military sales will continue to boom, selling arms to both sides as usual..

plus, this little distraction will go a long way in giving obama a “two-fer” -it gives clout to his campaign speeches supporting an invasion of pakistan -to go after those pesky pakistani al-qaeda hideouts -and at the same time, he can route those pesky hamas that are ruining israel’s
    “peaceful nature” *cough*

-funy how nobody seems to make note of the fact that israel started planning this attack within days of the cease fire 6months ago.. Operation Cast Lead..sounds like a pentagon think tank name if you ask me..

(thought: find out if israel is using DU ammo
against the pakis..if it is, then they have no intention of permanently settling the
    area..unless they’re complete idiots.

-no doubt, they will have to use overwhelming force in this Op to “affirm their resolve and military might” to their enemies..esp seeing as how the US might be too broke to help them in the near future..

-or that obama’s cabinet is *STACKED* with pro-israel fanatics..(wonder how much money they stuffed in his war chest)

rest assured, this is nothing but politics as usual.. the US is and always will be, a lap dog to israel.

in perfect world we would cut all ties with israel and leave them to their fate. they have produced far more headaches for the US than they could ever possibly be worth..

as long as there are weapons to be sold and banks to back them, war, anywhere, will never cease to exist.

White phosphorous is not a chemical weapon. It is used for smoke cover.

    #141
Should I even ask how that is the slightest bit relevant?

In a perfect world, the Arabs wouldn’t be teaching children to hate Jews in kindergarten. In a perfect world, one of the 42 attempts on Hitler’s life would have succeeded and stopped the Holocaust. In a perfect world, Muslims would have never conquered Israel in the 7th century. In a perfect world, we’d have an infinite supply of oil accessible purely through domestic drilling.

We don’t live in a perfect world. Today, Israel is recognized as a sovereign country which has been attacked by another nation. They are at liberty to fight back.

Just read a few posts and as usual I see Bobblo acting up like a child. Anytime someone writes logical sense on these boards he resorts to name-calling. Silly, childish, and EASY.

Nobody on these boards can possibly provide an answer to the problems in the middle east. We all want peace but it is not possible at our current global human population numbers. Those who adapt will thrive, and those who do not will die.

  6. bobbo says:

#146–Carcarius==you are right. I’ve seen the errors of my way. I need to step up my game.

When intelligent people post “Israel should not oppress the Arabs who they stole the land from and be more understanding of Hamas rocketing their country everyday” I should stop and think before calling them stupid.

Likewise with the following: “Those who adapt will thrive, and those who do not will die.” You know, its undeniable tautologies like this that really provide an insight to the secret workings of this world. I have everything to learn from insights like these.

    as an afterthought, i question
the validity of “who fired first” for
    two reasons..

    1) israel had this Op in planning since
the day of the cease fire..

    2) the US media’s insistence in the georgia
incident that russia fired first was proven
    to be a boldface lie.

how anyone can trust our media -esp
in foreign affairs, is beyond me.

in the end, i imagine this conflict
will be used to overshadow far more
important *news* that will be buried
    by it..

(can’t wait for the final presidential
pardon list, for one..any bets that madoff
gets limited to house arrest for xx
years? -no club fed for him?)

    -perfect worlds are highly relative.

Trust me, if Israel were to somehow magically rid itself of all of it current “enemies”. It would just go looking for some more to pick a fight with. And they only want the promised land, because its become a focal point of US foreign aid. If the US didn’t send them any more aid, I doubt Israel could be self-sustaining for long. They don’t have one of the largest lobbies in the US Congress, for reasons not involving funding. They do. And should the funds ever dry up. Expect to see Israel produce their own terrorist army. They’ll be wanting some of that Arab oil next.
