Wolfowitz

Landau, Seperated at Birth?

World Bank chief to debate journalism at international press congress in Scotland – [Sunday Herald] — Yes, Wolfowitz, the architect of the Iraq war who, in an interview, said they knew EXACLTY where the WMDs were. Is this meeting supposed to be a joke? I hope the Scots boo him off the stage and a riot ensues.

WORLD Bank president Paul Wolfowitz and newspaper legend Harold Evans will debate the future of journalism at the International Press Institute (IPI) congress, when Scotland hosts the event for the first time in Edinburgh in May

The IPI expects 600 leading journalists and publishers to attend, and event co-ordinator Michael Kudlak has promised “at least one Hollywood star” will participate in a debate on privacy and celebrity.

Wolfowitz, who as US deputy secretary for defence was one of the architects of the Iraq war, has been asked to discuss Africa and how best journalists can highlight the plight of the world’s poor.

Evans, who edited The Sunday Times and The Times and has written textbooks on journalism, will lead the session on the erosions of civil liberties and press freedoms resulting from policies related to the war on terrorism .

Kudlak said: “That session will be about how legislation has impinged on civil liberties, such as in France, where stringent new laws have just been passed. It will focus on access to information and press freedom in particular.”

  1. John Lettice says:

It appears the Congress is being organised by an outfit called Integrity Events.

  2. Ralph says:

That’s YOUR idea of journalism: Booing someone off a stage.

    Pathetic.

  3. RTaylor says:

Every generation deserves a Robert McNamara.

  4. Eideard says:

Ralph — better the White House style of journalism, eh? Ask a tough question and be banned from future “press conferences”?

  5. James G says:

Landau and Wolfiwitz? Sorry I don’t see it, though they both appeared in “Space 1999”.

  6. site admin says:

Ralph, Yes, i think booing this guy of the stage is a good idea…unless you like him, then cheer. People need to express themselves. I’d recommend tomato throwing but someone would probably interptet that as terrorism. SO, by your standards, people should never be booed and the public should just be passive sheep. OK, sorry I do not think so.

  7. site admin says:

James, do you thik he looks more like Nimoy then?

  8. kzoodata says:

That’s not nice – I hold Commander Koenig in high regard.

BTW, Nimoy would be a better comparison, as they were both being considered to play Spock. Anyway, this is more interesting the talking about whether or not a high official of the American government should be allowed to speak freely or should be booed or heckled while doing so. He’s there to talk about Africa, for cryin’ out loud – sounds like he’s already been marginalized to me (for the purposes of this debate). Why are you giving the limelight to the bad guys? (no no, not the commander!)

  9. AB CD says:

I guess we know why they keep throwing people out of the room for tshirts and so forth. When even reasonable people think heckling and shouting down the speaker is OK(as well as tomato throwing), might as well keep out potential troublemakers.

  10. AB CD says:

Perhaps if you’re giving a speech on technology, you might want to keep out anyone wearing a Windows shirt.

  11. AB CD says:

Perhaps the closest comparison is Boss Hogg in Fail Safe.

  12. mike Cannali says:

I think he looks more like Bela Lugosi
    plays a similar role also
