Google Translation Here — There have been a couple of stories from the EU newspapers regarding this situation which will not sit well with the flag happy Nordics. At some point this sort of thing will be rejected. The idea is to hide the country of origin since it might make it harder for the competition — known for an inferior product — to compete. This is actually political correctness run amuck.
EU to ban the Finnish flag and other national symbols use of food marketing. State-funded campaigns are no longer next year, may be used for anything to suggest the origin of the word or picture.
EU Commission’s decision to lift the sight of domestic Vegetable known cotyledon logo from next year on. Even the name of the association to be changed.
Just when you thought the EU was a sensible bunch
How far from a ban is a failure to require the source of imported food as is done here in the USA? Most fresh food I see in the grocery store is unlabeled as to Country of Origin.
I prefer to buy my fruit and vegetables from the USA and will pay a small premium for USA meat. Don’t care what State of the Union they come from.
Banning it?! I always the EU would require them. Flags are fun, so is setting them on fire.

you dont care if the Meat was sent from Florida to OHIO, then shipped back to Texas..
I think its a waste to Ship our MEAT 3000-5000 miles when There are ranchers IN THIS STATE(not texas) that would sell you FRESH meat that YOU KNOW where it came from.
If I want to buy a 1/2 to a WHOLE Cow, I can get it Killed, Cut, wrapped..For about <$3 per pound. I just need a LARGE freezer..Or allot of friends that want SOME MEAT..
#4–ECA==when you put it that way, yes, I would care, even for frozen meat. So==I’m now for Source/Origin/Processing Date labeling on all food items.
God I love DU. So much to learn, so little time.
This just in: EU bans capitalism. More at 11.
The EU has steadfastly opposed expressions of nationalism, of national identity. Unless they’re French.
I would COPYRIGHT a package DESIGN and COLORING..
so they can Identify my Product..SCREw the flag.
Does this mean anyone can make champagne and Parmesan cheese again?
Let’s hear it for the EU & freedom of speech.
What if Finland decided that it wanted Finnish flag markss on all locally produced food sold within its borders, and told the EU to stuff it? That’ll work.
We could of course do the same in the US if we wanted to…and actually did so not that long ago with “Made (or Grown) in the USA” tags. For some reason WalMart stopped that about 10 years ago…
hey this isn’t political correctness. it is free market.
Strange that us Swedes can’t keep pesticides out banned her over ten years ago out. Why? It’s a obstacle of trade. How about letting us export Snus to the rest of EU or at least to Finland where Swedish speaking people live(290 000). Snus is a tobacco product less harmful than cigarettes so why the ban? Also farm subsidies for france and crap, EU sucks. I voted no and I feel better about it each year
What’s this going to mean for IKEA, who paints its stores in the colors of the Swedish flag?
I am storing popcorn and soda for the day EU asks the French to ban the French flag and stop singing the “La Marseillaise”…
Drip, drip, drip as the Countries of the EU slowly become as insignificant as U.S. States…
