Unrest Reaches Paris; 13 Cars Torched – Yahoo! News — Has anyone but me conidered the possibility that these are actually one of those groups advocating bicylces for travel?
PARIS – The urban unrest that triggered scores of arson attacks on vehicles, nursery schools and other targets from the Mediterranean to the German border reached Paris overnight, with police saying early Sunday that 13 cars were burned in the French capital.
By 1 a.m., at least 607 vehicles — including those in Paris — were burned during the 10th night of violence, said Patrick Hamon, spokesman for the national police. The overall figures were expected to climb by daybreak, he added.

Nice. Tout l’enfer se casse lâchement! (All hell is breaking loose.)
The most recent theory in controlling riots is containment, and waiting for it to die out. I doubt the Gendarmerie alone can deal with this. If they send in armored vehicles and regular army it will escalate the violence and politics. This is exactly what the organizers want them to do. Video of a young dead youth of Middle Eastern decent, with armored cars in the background is major win here. This is French Colonial expansion coming home to roost a century later.
600 ? The count already goes way over 900, and that was yesterday…
Tell me this isn’t happening in the socially and morally superior county of France. You hate to see this, but it couldn’t happen to a better country.
This is what happens when conservative ppl are in charge. The only thing that separates French conservatives from the American conservatives is that they don’t need the church.
The NY Times reports that a total of 3300 vehicles have been burnt since October 27.
Angel –
You’ve been smoking something funny if you think Chirac is “conservative” in the American sense.
I don’t smoke, maybe that’s what keeps my mind from being foggy because you don’t need a Bible to be conservative although it does help.
“This is what happens when conservative ppl are in charge…” Seriously? Muslim fanatics start a path of destruction? Hey, maybe you’ve got a point… France and it’s “conservative” government have long held that the “war on terrorism” is a facade. After finding the bomb-making factory within their own borders today, I wonder if they still feel that way.
By not going into Iraq, basically surrendering to Iran on nukes, and evacuating Algeria, France sent a message of weakness.
France should practice what they preacj, and pursue land for peace, forgo violence that would disrupt the peace process, etc. These rioters have rights too.

You know that the rioters are asking for something similiar to that, AB CD: They want to govern their own neighborhoods without French involvement.
