What diffrence does it make if there african american?

  2. Mel says:

Imagine the reaction if only one of them were african american…

(I have no idea what that means)

  3. Lenny E. says:

“…it is very important that time is allowed for Mr. Brown to eat dinner.”

This really deserves to be blogged separately…while people were dying in N.O, Mike “Drownie” Brown was prioritizing which restaurant to visit in Baton Rouge. You can read the story at the above URL or see video at the “Crooks and Liars” blog at http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/10/20.html#a5465

  4. RTaylor says:

I would make a good wager that these two are alcoholics and probable drug abusers that needed the booze worse than food. I’ve seen the DT’s, so I will not judge these poor people trying to find a drink. It’s a far greater comment on society than it is two poor devils trying to survive.

Why bother rebuilding New Orleans . Let it stay under water

    Paul

In your second post, you make two broad assumptions and then go on to equate that as the truth.

You do not know what Reverends Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson would have said if they were black. You also suggested that these two people were “trash” without any backing evidence.

Any picture can tell a story. This picture can tell several different stories, depending upon the viewer. So for you to suggest that “well, they’re just that. trash. who gives a fuck about this alcoholic woman and man,” is an indication of your indifferent, selfish, condescending, “I’m an asshole” attitude.

  7. Lenny E. says:

    Pat,

Paul really wasn’t suggesting that the two people were “trash.” He was using sarcasm (not always easy to read). At the end of the post he explains “if you find humor in it, you need to perform a reality check on your sense of compassion. “

  8. Teyecoon says:

What you didn’t know was that these were “middle class” folks before Bush came into power.

  9. Gray Boyett says:

Now isn’t this a good advert for well manufactured Marine plywood? Who produced the float? It holds quite a bit of weight, without delaminating….. 🙂 And don’t forget to chase the beer with the Mountain Dew….

  10. T.C. Moore says:

    Paul,

The trends of rising income inequality and declining socio-economic mobility in the US have been small but real. It was thoroughly documented in a survey in the Economist a couple months ago, and discussed in articles before and after. Even if small, the trend is growing and headed in the wrong direction.

I think 35% is probably about right for the top marginal tax rate. And the tax cuts were luckily timed just right to help the economy. But after the income of the top 1% leapt during the 90s, and the new realities of globalization and the downturn have hit the lower and middle classes in the last 5 years, cutting the taxes of the wealthy obviously exacerbated this problem.

I believe in equality of opportunity, as opposed to equality of outcomes, as much as the next conservative. But this trend can’t be good for the morale and cohesiveness of our society. The left is starting to call the “American Dream” a fantasy and con job, and the numbers are supporting them!!

While being a CEO is one of the most difficult and precarious jobs out there, I can’t believe that the CEO of GM, for example, is adding 1400 times more value to that company than a factory line worker. In fact, their shareholders and so many other companies’ should be demanding rebates of salary and bonuses for the all the value they’ve pissed away over the last 3 decades.

Just from an economic perspective, income inequality in the country is starting to become indefensible.
