One dead, thousands without power and the first October snow in London in 74 YEARS as Arctic blast sweeps UK | Mail OnlineThe ravages of global warming continue unabated.

One man was killed and thousands were left without power today after inches of snow fell across the country overnight.

Just two days after the end of British Summertime, the first snowfall of the year saw a lorry driver killed when his vehicle collided with another lorry on the M40 in Buckinghamshire.

Tonnes of lard being carried in one of the lorries was left strewn over all six lanes of the motorway causing long delays.

I am in england right now. Last week I was at London for RSA London and happened to be on Edgeware road for Lebanese food (and bellydancing) at the Maroush restaurant (highly recommended) When we came out of the restaurant, there was snow everywhere (it hadn’t even rained in the previous three days!) It was very dramatic, and quite lovely (London is pretty in the snow) Now I am in Oxford, and the cold snap is just wearing off.

Snow in London in October is worth noting. For those of you who wish a better understanding of climate change, there is no better place to start than Professor James Lovelock’s GAIA. This seventies classic will give you plenty to think about, and is a lot deeper than most of the sources one sees quoted on this topic.

Happy Halloween, I will be home in time for Sunday Mass.

    Grow some balls London.

  3. SnotLikeBlasterpoop says:

The problem with the US auto industry is that most cars are too damn small. In a real country driving is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.

All this early snow means it’s time to double your carbon footprint to save the planet.

As for myself, I just went out and bought 100 charcoal grills to try and keep my yard warm.

  4. Personality says:

And in Eastern North Dakota yesterday, it was 71! A heat wave for this time of year.

  5. J says:

Wow! I don’t think I have seen such blatant ignorance from people in almost 10 minutes. The tremendous ignorance of global climate is stunning! Keep spouting you stupidity! That goes for you too JCD. Do you bother to read any of the reports or are you just a huge shill? Every time I read comments like this, you know the ones like “It is cold here or there”, I laugh because I know that person hasn’t bothered to read the reports that predict of the effects of global climate change.

You do nothing but promote your own ignorance.

  6. Paddy-O says:

The Earth cools and the Earth warms. It has cycles. Period. It’s no reason start wealth redistribution.

  7. QB says:

English weather is so unpredictable at this time of year.

  8. Improbus says:

The amount of ignorance on this blog is truly of epic proportions. I am with J on this one.

  9. Mr. Fusion says:

After reading the above 39 posts, all I can say is, with a few exceptions, “WHAT A BUNCH OF IDIOTS” !!!

First, the correct term is Climate Change.

Second, Climate change is NOT synonymous with weather.

Third, Singular events do not make a trend.

  10. James Hill says:

The Braintrust (#37, #38, #39, #40, #41) – So what should we do about it? Yes, “we”.

(The low quality of conversation around here, not global warming/cooling/climate change.)

At the end of the day, this blog is nothing more than a way to create hit count. While the consistent sniping is fun and all, it’s getting a bit old. I originally started posting here because it was interesting, but it hasn’t been that way for some time.

    I’m open to suggestions.

  11. Sea Lawyer says:

#41, Yes, climate change is the popular term now since it allows you to be correct regardless of what happens in fact. Bravo.

  12. J says:

    # 43 Sea Lawyer

Global warming is still accurate. It just confuses people who don’t understand what it means. For instance….people like you.

  13. Mr. Fusion says:

    #42, Jimy Heel,

What can be done? Speaking for myself, I would say if you don’t like it here, don’t come.

You mention the “… consistent sniping is fun and all, it’s getting a bit old”. So that insinuates you will cease with your own comments? You will no longer be “owning” people? (whatever that means in your juvenile slang)

Jimy, if you would like to see better conversation here great. The best way would be through leadership though. So if you want a better class of dialogue, you first. Maybe, just maybe, because I don’t speak for anyone else, others might follow.

  14. Sea Lawyer says:

Oh, you misunderstand, I’m with you completely – being vague is always preferable to being specific.

  15. Paddy-O says:

#42 James Hill, “So what should we do about it? Yes, “we”.”

What should we do about the ebb and flow of climate change that has been happening since Earth formed?

Buy beachfront property in Greenland. Get ready to farm huge areas of North America & Asia that have been too cold to be productive. Be prepared for much more precipitation than in the past (ready farmland in formerly arid areas).

    Do you want more suggestions?

  16. Global Nutcases says:

“Due to global warming.” I can’t stop laughing!

Everything chaotic is due to Al Gore, Pelosi, Frank, and other idiots you silly wabbit.

  17. moss says:

No, I’m not going to read all the comments. How many people in this room still need the difference between weather and climate explained?

It would just spoil their intellectual onanism.

  18. Paddy-O says:

#49 “How many people in this room still need the difference between weather and climate explained?”

Do you still need to know the definition of “natural cycle”?

  19. QB says:

    # 42 James Hill said “The Braintrust (#37, #38, #39, #40, #41) – So what should we do about it? Yes, “we”.”

In 39 I said “English weather is so unpredictable at this time of year.”

Here’s my little trick. I check the weather before I go out. You know, so I can like wear a coat or carry an umbrella.

  20. keaneo says:

#50 – that’s called begging the question by the way.

    “Natural cycle”? Having your period?

    Here’s the road-death:

“On the M40 motorway near High Wycombe, a driver was killed early this morning when two lorries collided. The motorway was closed in both directions after one of the vehicles shed its load of lard across all six lanes of both carriageways between junctions five and six. Police said the section was likely to remain shut until this afternoon and drivers are being warned to avoid the area today.

“A Thames Valley police spokeswoman said it was not yet known if the “very bad” weather played a part in the crash.

Could have been the lard. Oops, no – that’s all between #50’s ears!

They did have an inch of snow after all.
