I don’t watch the Emmys anymore, they’re too slow moving and designed to promote certain celebrities. The fact is that most of the winners of the Primetime Emmy’s are never shown on TV because apparently nobody cares about the best one-camera editors are crap unless, of course, you need one to do the editing. Some of these technical people are as important or often (such as casting organizations) MORE important than an actor, but the public has been trained by the media to adore the actors above all else. Then everyone bitches about getting stalked. Anyway…here is the big list of hidden winners (without all the fluff). FYI.
What I found interesting is that HBO won the most awards. It’s not even a broadcaster. Shouldn’t they be in a different category or something?
In the old days (says the 25 year-old), there were the Cable ACE Awards. Those seem to have fallen by the wayside and the cable channels can submit work for awards now.
Honestly, I’m not bothered that much by it. HBO consistantly puts out better content than the networks do. Why? The networks don’t make the content anymore. Very few shows are done in house. This likely explains why NBC bought Universal: to own the content they’ve been airing.
The networks are less concerned with what they’re airing and more concerned with how to package it. Padding Will and Grace with ads for Volkswagons. Surrounding Everybody Loves Raymond with Ben-Gay spots. You guys get the picture.
HBO, not having to worry about that, can use their Time Warner might for good and create content that people want to watch, not shows that they merely feel compelled to watch because it’s there.
I was actually suprised by the fact that NBC and CBS will be airing shows that I want to watch the next few nights. Sitcoms no less! Even UPN may draw me in for something other than Yankee Baseball or pro wrestling (which will probably only be around for another eleven months on the network).
The state of US tv is bad. It’s no wonder why HBO is kicking ass and taking names at the tv awards shows.
Excellent point. The talent and skill required to edit an interrupted show must be different than those required to edit a show that is interrupted every 7 minutes for two minutes or more. Isn’t HBO really more like a movie than a television show?
See that’s the list of people that I actually care about… Being in TV myself I like to know who won for best editors and all the technical crap like that. Hell, someday I hope to have one!
