Samsung 8-chip
The new 10-chip MCP, which Samsung claimed is the first in the world, is formed of two 4-gigabyte NAND flash memory chips, four 512-megabyte dynamic random access memory chips and four 256-megabyte NOR flash memory chips, and has a capacity of 11 gigabytes.
The multifunctional chip can mix and compound different memory chips, depending on its application. It is expected to contribute to space efficiency in mobile phones and other portable devices with its micro size.
The MCP package is gaining market attention as a core part in mobile phones with its high capacity and small size. Samsung Electronics developed the world’s first six-chip MCP in 2003 and an eight-chip MCP earlier this year.
Phew! That’s a lot of horsepower in such a small package. What should we build?
I’ll be more curious to see what products end up getting the Cell processor that’s going into the Playstation 3. 3.2 gigahertz packed with nearly 235 million transistors and NINE onboard processors??? WHOA. What do you think of that???

But seriously, I really want to see something like this chip applied to PDA’s- Imagine storing the Wikipedia archive on your Palm and instantly being able to research any esoteric/tech/science topic!
