Mary Landrieu, Women of the Storm – and blue tarp umbrellas

With more than two dozen prominent Republicans publicly backing incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu over her GOP opponent, state Treasurer John Kennedy, the state Republican Party is considering ways to discipline Republican officials who endorse Democrats, the head of the state party said Saturday.

When high-profile elected Republicans endorse Democrats, it “sends the message that we are not united,” state GOP Chairman Roger Villere said. “It confuses the Republican message. . . . We are not looking to punish people, but we don’t want this to develop into a trend.”

Speaking with reporters after the quarterly meeting of the party’s governing body, Villere said several party leaders want to adopt a formal mechanism to censure GOP officials who break with the party’s candidates. He said passing a resolution “without teeth” simply to sanction a Republican who backs a Democrat, as party leaders have in the past, “doesn’t make sense.”

He would not elaborate about possible sanctions.

Whatever might they do to dissidents in the sovereign state of Louisiana?

    Excommunication. Nothing less!

  2. Dallas says:

Take my advice – When the GOP sheep start to break from the herd, it’s because the sheep dog ain’t work’in. You gotta get a new sheep dog.

Newt Gingrich needs to come back from his penalty box and gather the sheep. However, it’s too late for this election.

  3. James Hill says:

Considering the LA GOP got an Indian (dot, not feather) elected as Governor, I’d say they’re pretty organized as it is.

  4. MikeN says:

And I’m sure you’ll be just as upset if Joe Lieberman is punished for endorsing McCain?

  5. SparkyOne says:

    Whip me thrill me leadership

  6. Pagon says:

It’s a hallowed repub tradition. Party before country. Do anything to get and keep power.

  7. Mister Mustard says:

We are not looking to punish people, but we don’t want this to develop into a trend.

The stop being such douche bags, or it’s going to go from being a “trend” to being a stampede.

Pretty soon, the only people who will admit to being Republicans are the inbred retards that show up at McCain rallies.

  8. Yeah, this is the same organization that changed the rules for the Republican Presidential Caucus earlier this year, after the vote had already taken place, so that John McCain would win (in the initial vote, Ron Paul won).

But seriously, there is no good choice for us Louisianans for this Senate race. Either it’s a corrupt Democrat (Mary Landrieu) or a neoconservative Republican (John Kennedy). It’s too bad the Libertarians didn’t put much effort into their Senate candidate’s campaign (Richard Fonteneau), but that’s who I’ll be voting for, even though he won’t win.

  9. Improbus says:

Goodness no, we don’t people acting on their conscience. Who knows where that would lead.

  10. Jawbone says:

Their problem isn’t with the GOP; it’s with John Kennedy, a man who seems to be confused about who he really is. Landrieu is an established LA politician who probably has some ties with many state politicians in each party.

We’re definitely proud of our current governor though. Bobby Jindal, FTW!

  11. James Hill says:

Listen to all the angry liberals adding nothing to the thread. Not like that’s a shock.

    You’ve lost another thread.

  12. Rick Cain says:

Tell ya what we will trade you one lightly-used Joe Lieberman in exchange.

  13. Yes, heaven forbid your base think for themselves… and the Democratic party is no better, mind you. George Washington was right, this form of party system is a blight on the American political landscape.

  14. Bgiby says:

So let me get this straight. You have two parties in the US (I know that there are other, but come on – you only have two parties), and as soon as a party official steps out of bounds they get punished, oops I mean “disciplined”? Where’s the broad political spectrum? Is it really either Rep/Dem, two extremes in the same quartile of the political spectrum?

  15. Dallas says:

#14 It’s even scarier than that. Our system allows for astonishingly stupid people to vote for the leader of the free world. Note the morons at the McCain town hall session last week.

It’s important to note that those allowed through the door were actually hand-picked to weed out the insane and those that arrived with a drool bucket.

  16. JimD says:

I’m surprised that there are ANY REPUKES LEFT IN LOUISIANA AFTER BUSH’S ***MISERABLE FAILURE*** BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER KATRINA !!! The Bush and GOP FAILURE TO FUND NEEDED LEVEE WORK BEFORE THE STORM and the TOTAL FAILURE OF FEMA TO RESPOND IN ANY REASONABLE WAY AFTER THE HURRICANE !!!

  17. MikeN says:

People in LA know it was the governor and mayor that failed not the Prez. Don’t let the national media mouthpieces fgor the Democratic Party fool you.

  18. the answer says:

so basically; the beatings will continue until moralle improves

  19. Mr. Fusion says:

    #15, Dallas,

It’s important to note that those allowed through the door were actually hand-picked

So that is how McCain got Sarah Palin(‘s nose booger).

I also notice knuckle draggers weren’t excluded. My guess is that would have eliminated too much of the crowd.
