This is Sony’s “own” browser.
Sony is enhancing the PlayStation Portable with features that include the addition of a Web browser to the operating software, the company announced on Wednesday.
The firmware 2.0 upgrade is designed to let users surf the Internet from hotspots using the device’s built-in Wi-Fi functions. In addition, the upgrade features Wi-Fi security, tools for photo sharing and enhanced video and audio playback. The software can be downloaded from the PSP Web site directly to the PSP via a wireless connection, or downloaded to a PC and transferred through a USB cable.
According to the PSP website, “Use of the PSP™ Internet Browser requires wireless LAN access. It works only with model PSP-1001 K.
Any talk about what’s the engine in that thing? Will I need to code a stylesheet like I do for mobile, or is this a new best for CSS here? This is a blessing, but depending on what it’s running, it could be another battle for the W3.

Yes, but according to sources like the gamers at Penny Arcade, the firmware also cripples the PSP by preventing the use of any ‘homebrew’ hacks. They are advising PSP owners not to download the firmware upgrade.
Though it is a relatively nice browser, it is crippled with storing its browser cache and other temp files on the devices memory itself. Therefore, after browsing through a few pages, users receive a dubious “there is not enough memory ” error. Having a 1G Memory Stick Duo… i hope this gets fixed soon.
It’s about time. Now people can use the browser, and use things like web MSN messenger. I think we need a price drop on the PSP though.

Pay no mind to Sony’s website. They’re a chinese firedrill over there.
The “1001 K” is the JAPANESE model of the PSP. Up till just today (Aug. 24) the 2.0 firmware was only “officially” supported on the 1001K, but as of today, the firmware update is available on U.S. models (I know, because I just did it.).
As for you hackers out there, there’s a simple answer to your problem: Just get TWO PSP’s. Use one for your favorite hobby of wasting time on ported versions of 15-year-old pixel-graphic video games, and use the other one to receive the legal updates.
