A copy of next week’s Best Buy circular (above) duly notes the handset’s arrival with a sprawling glamour shot across its cover, the latest example of a blossoming relationship between Apple and the No. 1 U.S. specialty electronics retailer…

On September 7th, Best Buy will also become the first independent U.S. retailer to carry the iPhone 3G when it’s put up for sale at 970 Best Buy locations and 16 Best Buy Mobile specialty outlets across the country. More importantly, however, the deal broadens Apple’s reach by expanding the number of iPhone distribution points by approximately 30 percent to over 3000 locations.

Up until now, Americans could only purchase the iPhone from approximately 2,200 locations, including approximately 190 Apple retail stores and 2000 mobile phone dealerships operated by exclusive US iPhone carrier AT&T.

I’ll stop by my local Best Buy and see if there’s anyone there who knows whatever about the iPhone.

I’ll have to dash right out and not buy one. Still don’t need a smart phone.

  2. Dallas says:

I will soon buy an iPhone for sure – once they fix the 3G issues (which are really ATT’s fault).

However, I can’t see that network issue being resolved until end of 1Q of 2009 at the earliest

  3. green says:

The smarter the phone, the dumber the user.

    FU fanboys FU 😀

  4. Lou Minatti says:

I was at BB earlier today. They have signs up all over.

I had been using a Nokia E61i. The email functions are very nice when you do a lot of travel. I had a problem with the Nokia, though, it would not pair with my in dash bluetooth kit (motorola kit) and I was not willing to change it out AGAIN.
So I got an iphone 3g. Very nice code integration, great chi. Needs an accessory fold up keyboard (with accessory battery and charger)
    but that can be solved.

Great toy value. Nice car phone (big lit up keypad in my car phone cradle–dream set up)

Battery problems are real, so I don’t use the ipod functions at all.

Finally–it costs a bleeding fortune to use outside the usa.

It will run skype, I am told.

  6. Floyd says:

I’ll guess that even if you buy the phone from Best Buy, you’re still stuck with AT&T as the carrrier.

  7. becagle says:

“Call me when I can get one without AT&T”

  8. AC_in_Mich says:

Best Buy boys don’t know squat! I was in there this week asking about Netbooks and three of them have never heard of them! When I then mentioned the Asus Eee, they said they stopped carrying them because they wren’t popular enough

  9. deowll says:

I can see a mini laptop.

I just can’t go for an Iphone. The keypad and screen is just to small and the bills for service to great.

So what if it plays music?

I’ve already discovered I need an MP3 like I need horse shoes. I won’t listen to the thing and I don’t have a horse thus both are of equal value to me.

Okay horse shoes are supposed to bring good luck so maybe I could use one of those.

Data plans are still for Suckas!

  11. Joshua says:

#9…Ac_Mich…….I was at my local store yesterday and they are still carrying Asus products.

They had signs everywhere about the iphone deal. One of the Geek boys explained how they work to me. I have no intentions of buying one.
I’m still a cell free zone.
