This came out earlier this year, but I just ran across it now. Unintended consequences due to insufficient testing and/or desire for profit outweighing other concerns.

Vaccine Induced Inflammation Linked to Epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome

Newly published data by Dr. J. Barthelow Classen in The Open Endocrinology Journal shows a 50% reduction of type 2 diabetes occurred in Japanese children following the discontinuation of a single vaccine, a vaccine to prevent tuberculosis. This decline occurred at a time when there is a global epidemic of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, which includes obesity, altered blood cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and increased blood glucose resulting from insulin resistance.

Classen proposes a new explanation for the epidemic of both insulin dependent diabetes (type 1 diabetes), which has previously been shown to be caused by vaccines and non insulin dependent diabetes (type 2 diabetes). Upon receipt of vaccines or other strong immune stimulants some individuals develop a hyperactive immune system leading to autoimmune destruction of insulin secreting cells. Other individuals produce increased cortisol, an immune suppressing hormone, to suppress the vaccine induced inflammation. The increased cortisol leads to type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

“The current data shows that vaccines are much more dangerous than the public is lead to believe and adequate testing has never been performed even in healthy subjects to indicate that there is an overall improvement in health from immunization.”

  1. Noel says:

I think that these maladies are more likely caused by inactivity and poor diet. Make sure your kids get inoculated, vaccinations save lives.

  2. bobbo says:

#1–Noel==so the study quoted above is what? In error?

What makes you think EVERY vaccine saves lives==because the manufacturer says so?

Keep you head in the sand.

  3. moss says:

    Didn’t especially find peer-reviewed confirmation.

The article ends “Classen’s research has become widely accepted” – exept that this is noted by Reuters as being a press release from Classen.

  4. moss says:

Search further and you learn that Classen has “patented” the publication of adverse effects from vaccination! Wha?

And: “These method patents are available for licensing.

    Classen Immunotherapies seeks partnerships with:
-Individuals who discover adverse event information
-Manufacturers interested in unitizing Classen’s Patents”

  5. Noel says:

    #3-bobbo,

I see no reason to think this is accurate. But I know that 14 million or more people will die in the next 7 years if not inoculated for TB.

    http://www.stoptb.org/globalplan/plan_p2main.asp?p=2

This is the type of dangerous misinformation that could scare parents into not having their children vaccinated for dangerous diseases.

  6. bobbo says:

#6–Noel==I agree. The “either/or” model is wrong though. No reason to think (yet) that the study is not accurate.

I love cross cultural studies like this one. Its as close to human experimentation we can get?

Point would be to determine if the TB vaccine does have this unwanted side effect and find alternatives or corrections?

Otherwise–yea, a healthy fat baby with diabetes is better than a dead one.

  7. moss says:

#6 certainly has it straight. Classen may be pointing at something useful. That’s all it is at this stage – pointing a finger.

Computational analysis – in one or another area of science – is probably where I’d be if I was starting out, nowadays. But, examining which variables are critical and which are apocrypha is essential.

The Trib has an excellent piece on the whole topic of vaccination:

  8. bobbo says:

    #10–poly==thanks for your info.

All his study says is that there may be unrecognized side effects. Using the word “dangerous” may be fear mongering but it makes a point.

For Profit Medicine has pro’s and con’s just like anything else.

Wouldn’t it be nice to find “a cause” for obesity, diabetes, allergies etc that could be corrected rather than mindlessly blaming the victims?

  9. It is all about the risk management. No one should force vaccinations on anyone. Pro-vaccination information should be provided by the Govt. to everyone. But, parents should decide for themselves and their children. Particularly as there is no danger to vaccinated kids… Our bodies are not Govt. property (yet).

  10. JimR says:

Does this mean I can’t play “hide the syringe” any more?

  11. Sea Lawyer says:

#6, 14 millions deaths out of a population of 6.6 billion is pretty insignificant. I’m sure though, once we eradicate all disease, we can make a go at reaching 10+ billion. The world should be plenty warm by then to present us with even more problems to deal with.

  12. green says:

How else but with generic engineering could we hope to nullify being outnumbered by China and India in war. Growth hormones aren’t to make cows bigger……

  13. MikeN says:

Yet some people want to pass laws insisting that people take every vaccination that a company comes up with. People on this site were cheering a new mandate for vaccines not too long ago.

  14. Montanaguy says:

This ‘study’ comes from a bogus, online journal that holds no credence in the endocrinology world. The author has a clear conflict of interest.
Would anyone like to go back to the days when parents helplessly watched their children die from tetanus, diphtheria, polio, etc.? I watched an unvaccinated child die from diphtheria at Cook County hospital and it was horrifying. It used to be commonplace. One of the reasons people had more kids only 100 years ago was that they expected some of them to die from diseases we never see now. An old-timer in our town wrote a historical piece for the local paper, describing his neighbors coming by the homestead with a horsedrawn sled and their 10 children piled up like cordwood on it, all dead from diphtheria. Vaccines are a medical miracle. People forget so quickly…

  15. Jim says:

The cited article is a PRESS RELEASE from THE AUTHOR. He’s fairly obviously one of these “immunization is bad” kooks that feeds into the panic of people who don’t know any better.

It’s incredibly sad how we have built up such wonderful medical processes to save ourselves from incredibly horrible diseases like TB and small pox, only to have imbeciles attempt to dismantle the programs because they don’t understand them and “think” they cause diseases.

I’m a fan of mandatory government immunizations with no way out. Let the idiots kill themselves and their kids some odd way, rather than taking out hundreds with them because of stupid decisions the government lets them make for their own children.

  16. MikeN says:

    >I’m a fan of mandatory government immunizations

ANd what if it’s not a communicable disease?

  17. Rider says:

The rise is obesity and diabetes is caused by one thing High Fructose Corn Syrup. Overlay a chart of manufactures using HFC and a chart of obesity in America and it’s very obvious.

  18. Bill says:

I hope your kids (don’t) get Polio. Remember that one?
I’ll take my chances with the vaccines.

  19. Mr. Fusion says:

    #21, Lyin’ Mike,

    >I’m a fan of mandatory government immunizations

ANd what if it’s not a communicable disease?

Mike, if the disease is not communicable, there won’t be a vaccine for it. Vaccines are only for diseases that are passed from person to person.

    *

Why not vaccinate everyone? It isn’t just those who aren’t vaccinated that are at risk, often if a new strain develops, the vaccination will give some protection. For others, the vaccination may have worn off or never have taken in the first place.

  20. Greg Allen says:

Dang. This one seems to have merit.

I normally dismiss anti-vaccine blog posts as paranoid nut jobs but this seems like a real possibility.

  21. deowll says:

It isn’t why I and my sister are fat. We eat to much and don’t get enough exercise.

  22. tankilo says:

Let’s just ignore this fact and be sure to pass laws making the HPV vaccine mandatory.
