Plot unfolds to assassinate Obama on national TV, a 4th arrest, more details | Top of the Ticket | Los Angeles Times — Personally, I thought it odd that, without explanation, Obama was holed up in the home of some white folks in Kansas last night. Why? I think it was for security.
More details emerging from Denver as we write this in the predawn hours on the now-suspected plot to assassinate Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama with a high-powered rifle on national television during his outdoor acceptance speech at Invesco Field on Thursday night.
Authorities have reported a fourth arrest in the unfolding plot that The Ticket first wrote about here a few hours ago at the end of Monday night’s Democratic National Convention events at the Pepsi Center.

We knew then that authorities in suburban Aurora had stopped a pickup truck for swerving between lanes early Sunday morning in what they thought was a routine drunk driving incident.
But in the rented vehicle of Tharin Gartrell, a 28-year-old convicted felon (see photo), they found two high-powered scoped rifles, ammunition, sighting scopes, radios, a cellphone, a bulletproof vest, wigs, drugs and fake IDs.

Funny, these guys look like they could barely pull of a successful suicide, much less a high profile assassination.

Personally, I’m not sure what genius thought it was a good idea to speak at the stadium in the first place. To the national TV crowd you can be very effective at the convention center with no chance of a disruption. And, I agree, these guys seem unlikely to pull off anything complicated.

I think it had more to do with the incompetence of the crim. Stopping a driver swerving all over the road isn’t exactly difficult, nor does it require real police work…

hmmm… not even in office yet and he’s had one planned/attempted assassination. I thought the white supremacists would at least wait until he was in office before starting in on him.
Obama may be my choice for American President, but I also think he’s the most likely to be assassinated. Not just for his race, but also for some of his stances, though we’ll have to see whether or not he follows through.
A guy like this is more likely to be a patsy. The real assassin will probably be an ex-military sniper. The kind that don’t miss.
#17, Grey. You raise a good point. Obama is more likely to be the target of an assassination attempt than most Presidents, and heaven knows just being President is bad enough.
This raises the question:
Are we comfortable with the very real prospect of Joe Biden becoming Pres?

I doubt it. All the people pissed at the current excuse for a President and there hasn’t even been an attempt.
Those who lost a buddy in a bad war.
Those roughed up by the police in our new “security mode”.
Those who lost a child because they didn’t have “good” health insurance.
Those who lost their jobs because it is cheaper to outsource.
Those who lost their house only to see the mortgage company get bailed out.
And the list of who goes on …

While dangerous these guys look more likely to get into a shoot out over drugs on the spur of the moment than to plan robbing a liquer store for more than six seconds.
I’m sure a few more redundent new gun control laws will come out of this since the the old ones worked so well at keeping guns out of the hands of these felons.
If it doesn’t work the first time just pass it few more dozen times. That will fix it and show the voting public you really care.
