CNN.com – Thousands of Uzbeks fleeing – May 14, 2005 — Again here is a conflict between Islamists and a Western nation. The result in places like this is a lot of dead Islamists and more trouble.
Karimov on Saturday blamed the violence on the Islamic radical group Hizb ut-Tahrir and said their goal is to establish an Islamic state and to destroy the current constitutional system.
Hizb ut-Tahrir has denied the accusations.
“The blame … has to be with Islam Karimov and his oppressive regime which has tortured and jailed thousands of innocent victims,” Imran Wahid, a Hizb ut-Tahrir spokesman in London, told Reuters.
“We want to undermine and overthrow the regime of Islam Karimov by peaceful means,” he added.
And you always have to read between th lines with these people since they do mix lies with subtle truths. In this case it’s true that they woudl like tooverthrow the government by peaceful means. What that means is to democratically elect a majority of Islamists and have then vote out Democracy and put Sha’ria government in place. Smoooth.

Extremism at issue
In the article “Extremism at Work”, the countries all mentioned are either dictatorships or regressing to one (Russia). As is seen here in the US with the Bush regime, these various governments are using the terrorist threat to crack down on any dissident and opposition to their dictatorships.
Uzbekistan is now an ally of the US as the Defense Department paid them $500 million for an airbase there for the war against Afghanistan. This has allowed the Uzbek tyrant Islam Karimov, to increase his human rights abuses without interference or even comment from American officials.
The most damning issue here is that the western world has turned a blind eye to the massacre and other abuses by Islam Karimov and his cronies. If anyone wonders why there is so little trust from the Islamic community towards Bush in particular and the US in general, then this hypocrisy might explain some of it. Bushes strive for democracy only involves those countries that have oil.
