One pissed off dude

World news from The Times and the Sunday Times – Times Online — Try to read this whole document. It’s a hoot. I have never seen such a botched investigation in my life. The sad part is that throughout Europe and most of the world the general public is well aware of the situation while the American public is still concerned about the “Scandal” over the TV show American Idol or Britney’s secret videos.

George Galloway, Respect MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, delivered this statement to US Senators today who have accused him of corruption

“Senator, I am not now, nor have I ever been, an oil trader. and neither has anyone on my behalf. I have never seen a barrel of oil, owned one, bought one, sold one – and neither has anyone on my behalf.

“Now I know that standards have slipped in the last few years in Washington, but for a lawyer you are remarkably cavalier with any idea of justice. I am here today but last week you already found me guilty. You traduced my name around the world without ever having asked me a single question, without ever having contacted me, without ever written to me or telephoned me, without any attempt to contact me whatsoever. And you call that justice.

“Now I want to deal with the pages that relate to me in this dossier and I want to point out areas where there are – let’s be charitable and say errors. Then I want to put this in the context where I believe it ought to be. On the very first page of your document about me you assert that I have had ‘many meetings’ with Saddam Hussein. This is false.

“Now you refer at length to a company names in these documents as Aredio Petroleum. I say to you under oath here today: I have never heard of this company, I have never met anyone from this company. This company has never paid a penny to me and I’ll tell you something else: I can assure you that Aredio Petroleum has never paid a single penny to the Mariam Appeal Campaign. Not a thin dime. I don’t know who Aredio Petroleum are, but I daresay if you were to ask them they would confirm that they have never met me or ever paid me a penny.

“Whilst I’m on that subject, who is this senior former regime official that you spoke to yesterday? Don’t you think I have a right to know? Don’t you think the Committee and the public have a right to know who this senior former regime official you were quoting against me interviewed yesterday actually is?

“Now, the neo-con websites and newspapers in which you’re such a hero, senator, were all absolutely cock-a-hoop at the publication of the Christian Science Monitor documents, they were all absolutely convinced of their authenticity. They were all absolutely convinced that these documents showed me receiving $10 million from the Saddam regime. And they were all lies.

“In the same week as the Daily Telegraph published their documents against me, the Christian Science Monitor published theirs which turned out to be forgeries and the British newspaper, Mail on Sunday, purchased a third set of documents which also upon forensic examination turned out to be forgeries. So there’s nothing fanciful about this. Nothing at all fanciful about it.

“The existence of forged documents implicating me in commercial activities with the Iraqi regime is a proven fact. It’s a proven fact that these forged documents existed and were being circulated amongst right-wing newspapers in Baghdad and around the world in the immediate aftermath of the fall of the Iraqi regime.

  1. Robert Blanchette says:

Galloway did put on a great show. I enjoyed it immensely. I dont’ think it helped him much though. He may still be in quite a bit of trouble.

Too bad all Senate hearings aren’t like this. People would watch CSpan a lot more if they were.

  2. John Schumann says:

Yeah, the Senate is a mess. One thing the Sentors know, and I hope you haven’t forgotten, is there’s a weekend coming up. We chick pics at least this good:

  3. Certain segments and bigwigs in the MSM are in a panic, thus rushing brashly into errors and bad judgment.

Shooting themselves in the foot as they think to defend the fort.

Aha. I knew intutively it would happen counter-intuitively for them.

    Forged documents.

    Er…Dan Rather anybody?

Let’s do something stupid, get caught, then keep doing it as a collective social institution. We’re thriving, huh?

  4. Ed Campbell says:

Too bad the thugs in Congress are shielded from lawsuits for libel. Old George ain’t in trouble. Just check in with the voters who elected him over the hand-picked lackey for the lapdog, Blair.

He won a $million or so when he sued the Telegraph for Libel. What else would you expect them to print as his “troubles”. He’s already emptying their pants and their pockets.

It’s a good time for Sam Clemens to walk the streets, again — “America’s only native criminal class is Congress.”

  5. Robert Blanchette says:

    In response to Ed Campbell:

Galloway barely won. He squeaked in with 35.9% of the vote. HIs closest opponent got 34%. That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement. He won because he wooed the muslims in his district with his ultra-liberal stance on issues.

Just because he won a lawsuit doesn’t mean he didn’t commit a crime. We won’t know that until the investigation is complete.

The only reason Galloway agreed to testfiy in the Senate was to give himself media exposure. He knew it would give him a platform to spout off his left-wing nutjob philosophies. He knew that even if he was guilty, the Senate wasn’t going to stir up an international incident by doing anything to him. The Senate’s biggest mistake was having him testify at all as he refused to answer any question of substance. It was all sound and fury signifying nothing.

  6. Default User says:

Wow. Where can I find Britney’s secret video?

  7. Sound the alarm says:

Juxtaposed to dubya’s nut job right wing philiosophies?

  8. Tal Rotbart says:

Apparently George Galloway is female, or at least his speechwriter is. Used the Gender Genie you posted about.

  9. Pat says:

    In response to Robert Blanchette

A win is a win is a win. Just ask Bush. Just ask the extremist religious right. Many members of Congress were elected with smaller margins.

Galloway believes that the Senate Sub-Committee has slandered him. He, because of his position as a foreign politician, could challenge the Sub-Committee on its report. And he did just that. As for “nutjob philosophies”, are you referring to Galloway’s insistent idea that the war in Iraq is wrong?

The use by the Sub-Committee of “former high ranking officials” is pure BUSHIT. If I remember correctly, the same use of “intelligence” led us to believe something about Weapons of Mass Destruction.

As for his winning the lawsuit, he won. He managed to convince a jury that the documents and basis for the story were forgeries and false and that the newspaper either knew or should have known that.

Now, if there are no credible documents or unimpeachable testimony then obviously there is no evidence to suggest that Galloway did indeed profit from Saddam’s oil. What there does appear to be is a smear campaign against him. Gee, can you say “Swift Boat Veterans”.
