The precise location of a Pakistani border post that was destroyed by U.S. airstrikes last month, killing 11 Pakistani paramilitary soldiers, was not in a U.S. database used to prevent accidental attacks on friendly forces, an investigation into the episode has concluded.

Had the coordinates of the remote outpost been logged into the database, it would have immediately raised a red flag when allied troops called in airstrikes after being fired on during a clash with insurgents on the Afghan border, said U.S. officials.

But the monthlong investigation by U.S., Afghan and Pakistani officials into the episode, which occurred June 10, assigned no blame.

After the June 10 incident, each of the three countries involved conducted its own inquiry into what happened. They then tried, largely unsuccessfully, to reconcile their results.

Oh well, data entry has always been bottom of the pay scale.

Never ever accept responsibility! Hasn’t “W” taught you anything? Hell, they were JUST Packis! It’s not like they was Americans!

  2. Me says:

Yea, At work we blame all our mistakes on the data entry dept. folks also.

  3. eyeofthetiger says:

So they are recording your toilet flushes but not military outpost on the Pakistani-Afghan border? Ha, that’s money well spent. Intel was probably obtained by purchase ticket from a dope/arms/tribal/soldier pointing his crusty finger at a map. Bingo gringo!

  4. amodedoma says:

Typical, it couldn’t possibly be the fault of the officer that identified the hostile target and called in the airstrike, hell no, it was some poor dope enlisted guy that didn’t do his data entry. Looks like the armed forces ain’t changed much in the last 20 years…. FTN

  5. Ah_Yea says:

Time for my tin-hat moment, but I agree completely with amodedoma. Data entry, yea that’s gotta be it…

Remember the original reason for the airstrike?

“according to accounts from American officials, the incident started when Taliban fighters from Pakistan crossed about 200 yards into Kunar Province, on the Afghan side of the border, and attacked American-led forces with small-caliber weapons and rocket-propelled grenade fire.

After coalition forces returned fire, driving the insurgents back into Pakistan, two United States Air Force F-15E fighter-bombers and one B-1 bomber dropped about a dozen bombs — mostly 500-pound munitions — on the attackers. An Air Force statement said the militants were struck “in the open and in buildings in the vicinity of Asadabad.”

Whoa! So it turns out that the cross-border insurgents were Pakistani troops!? Are we surprised? Do you wonder why we cannot get Bin Laden?

  6. Improbus says:

I’m sorry mam, your son was killed by transposition.

  7. deowll says:

Our mistake. We pay them blood dept. Not sure what that would be but maybe what they would have made for the next 50 or so years times 2 goes to their families? Papa not being around has got to count for something.

  8. zorkor says:

USA cannot get Bin Laden is just because they REALLY don’t want to get bin Laden. So stop blaming others for your stupid mistakes and keep your assumptions in your empty head.

Pakistan has given so many sacrifices to stop another 911 happening and you should be damn lucky to have an ally like Pakistan where the rest of the world doesn’t give a damn about USA.

and im talking to you Ah_Yea

  9. chuck says:

Does anyone really believe that there is such a thing as a “border” between Afghanistan and Pakistan?

There may be a line on a map, but the border is about as real as the U.S/Mexico border.

  10. MikeN says:

Wasn’t data entry at fault when we bombed the Chinese Embassy 10 years ago?

  11. GregAllen says:

Cripes. Another generation of Muslim men who hate America with the fire of a thousand suns.
