The Bush administration asserted executive privilege hours before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee was to vote on whether to bring contempt-of-Congress proceedings against EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson and Susan Dudley, administrator of regulatory affairs in the White House Office of Management and Budget, for refusing to turn over subpoenaed documents.
Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D-Beverly Hills) put off a vote on the contempt resolutions while he considers his options. “I don’t think we’ve had a situation like this since Richard Nixon was president,” he said.
A consistent policy from thugs accustomed to having their own way. After all, Congress abdicated any responsibility to represent the electorate, long ago. The meager Democrat majority consistently fails to muster the backbone to challenge the White House.
Charlie Rose just interviewed Justice Scalia who said the marvel of the Constitution was not the provisions of the Bill of Rights but rather the creating a government based on “Separation of Powers” and the checks and balances that flow from same.
He said every dictator has a Bill of Rights==doesn’t mean anything if they aren’t in fact granted.
Sadly, its the same with separation of powers. With Congress and the Presidency being melded by the two party system both serving their corporate masters, we have lost our checks and balances and the President has become a lawless Autocrat.
All the bums should be voted out of Office==they are all crooks. Let Obama have one term, then vote him out for the same reason.
“All the bums should be voted out of Office==they are all crooks. Let Obama have one term, then vote him out for the same reason.”
This may be the best strategy. Vote a straight anti-incumbant ticket.
I wish we could trust at least one party in these United States, but they are both snakes, and our government has become a great engine of corruption.
#2–Li==yea, I post this about every 10th political post. VOTE ALL THE ENCUMBENTS OUT!! One day they might get the message but right now, there is no reason a pol should recognize the clear will of the people==they get themselves re-elected 98% of the time. So what to do? If they all new they would be out of office maybe they would take the bait to do the right thing and have a slim chance at getting re-elected?? Yea, I don’t think it will ever work either. We are all dooooommed.
Maybe if they’d impeached Clinton for his invokings of executive privilege, future presidents would have been more careful.
If Congress is allowed to see White House EPA data, then Osama Bin Laden wins.
As for Clinton invoking executive privilege…surprise! Clinton never got executive privilege or even asked for it. That was just another rightwing talking point and lie to deflect from their criminal president.
>>I wish we could trust at least one party in
>>these United States
Do you trust a party in some other country? Or are you saying that all government is evil? Are you an Anarchist? What’s your point?
>>surprise! Clinton never got executive privilege
>>or even asked for it.
Aw, that doesn’t matter to Lyin’ Mike! It’s not for nothing that he’s know as Lying’ Mike; he doesn’t care what the real truth is, the just flatulates out any silliness that comes to his mind that he thinks will make those who are NOT right-wingnuts look bad.
And we all know he’s James Hill’s son.
#4–Zefyr==thats the whole point. No encumbent is near likely to vote the peoples’ interest. Political Office is all about power. Power is secured by Money. Money and Power to get re-elected and get personally rich while the country goes down the tubes.
No border security, no healthcare, no energy policy, no legalized drugs, no jobs policy, no food inspections, still giving Oil Companies Tax breaks, still giving tax credits to offshore jobs===on and on.
The best you can do is find a politician who is not one one particular pay-off scheme. He’s just on the other 9 schemes you haven’t found out about.
A politician is “clean” for about 6 months until he learns the ropes. Best we can do is limit their damage to one term and hope the old boy network breaks down.
Obama–no lobbyist money, but his folks can all be lobbyist after leaving government service for one year. Don’t expect any changes.
Only 7 more months of this BS.
Clinton invoked executive privilege many times. It was very foolish for Henry Hyde and company to drop that charge. They felt a president had the right to invoke executive privilege, without realizing that fundamentally impeachment isn’t about criminality, it is abuse of power.
I don’t remember for which specific executive privilege claim they considered impeachment, but Clinton tried a protective function privilege to keep Secret Service from testifying as well.
Here’s a thought, boycott the main election (presidentual). And any others under that, you feel aren’t trustworthy in your state. Everyone acts as if the wrong guy will get into office, if everyone doesn’t vote. Well hell, the wrong guy always turns out to be whoever wins. So what does that tell you? Either the fix is in, or all your choices are pre-compromised (or very soon will be). The yearly propaganda is that designed to keep the voting numbers from plunging so low that the election would be declared invalid. THEIR greatest fear, is that that politicians will have to retool this miss, to regain the public’s trust. After they’ve worked so hard to engineers and keep this farce going for so long. The entire Clinton vs Obama contest, has been designed to reinvigorate the democrats (and some others) into believing that their party might actually care. It’s just like some bleeding football game. The only thing missing are the cheerleaders. But the two teams are still owned by wealthy sponsors. Regardless of what trappings they wear, as to their state loyalities. It’s business, business, business. And voting for them is just keeps the games going. Only these players turn around and destroy a piece of our liberties, every chance (or term) they get. It’s not just about eating astroturf.
In case I wasn’t too clear in the last post… A boycott of the presidentual (and perhaps Senatorial too) election would shake things up more than any landslide vote for any one clown running for said office. It’s those every dwindling numbers that worry them more than anything else. They might actually have to fix the system they’ve rigged up so well (for their gain). That’s why all the news services go totally ape every election cycle, to stress how important and vital it is to participate. Yeah, really important. And then the bastards go and do whatever they want, afterwards. Screw the electorate. I say, lets screw them first. Tell them we want a better system, more responsible representation, or they can kiss any elections goodbye. We’ll just revert back to our own state run governments, for a while. Until they stop playing games and resign in their two faced loyalties.
#10, Lyin’ Mike,
I don’t remember for which specific executive privilege claim they considered impeachment, but Clinton tried a protective function privilege to keep Secret Service from testifying as well.
Is this the current tirade from your talk radio?
The Secret Service refused to answer Hyde’s questions claiming immunity as they are held to confidentiality in order to protect the President. Rule of law, certain circumstances prevent people from testifying, such as lawyers, religious confessors, and spouses, where confidentiality is expected.
Clinton didn’t claim Executive Privilege there.
LYIN’ MIKE BLOWS ANOTHER ONE !!!
No surprise there, ‘fraid the rest of the country might adopt CA’s standards (We do “crazy” things like requiring that an actual mechanic certify your car’s exhaust level every two years).
