Pictures like these really put the universe in perspective, even without leaving the solar system!

  2. Dajestar says:

    This makes my breath away….

  3. apeguero says:

Beautiful pictures. But then again, what did you expect? The Universe is full of wonderous objects.

What amazed me more was the stuff in the next entry of that website, the South Korean protest of US Beef Imports. F’ing WOW!!! They don’t want our beef imported. Take a look at the number of protesters in those pictures. But yet, we buy all kinds of crap from South Korea and keep a Military presence there with regards to North Korea. Unfair.

Is South Korea a good Ally of the US? Is this just a small anomily in our trade relations with them? Or is this indicative of how we’re viewed around the world? Take a look, for example, at how awful the US Auto Industry has done as well as the plight of the US Steel Industry. Now the IT Industry is steadily going to India and China. Other job markets will also suffer the same consequence. It’s almost as if we won’t have enough jobs for our own population if this keeps up and will eventually turn into a 3rd world country.

Wow! Thanks for a source of great new wallpaper.

I’ve been following the Cassini mission, and these are among the most spectacular images I’ve seen taken by that probe! The original article is worth checking out, as it has the images in large format!

YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK, TOO!

  6. Elwood Pleebus says:

    #4. Yeah, but we’ll be a big-ass 3rd world country!

  7. Jopa says:

    Amazing pictures! ๐Ÿ™‚
The universe is so beautiful, isn’t it?

What really frustrates me though, is that in space travel terms, we are at the stone age… I would really want a vehicle that will let humanity travel the universe in an effective way. The solar system is just a small place in the far reaches of the milky way galaxy. We’re pretty cut off from the rest of the world like some eskimos leaving near the north pole with all the action going on in NY :)~

So few people have been in space, think about it… we are like people living in 1905 – most of them never took to the sky on an airplane!
We are just looking at awe from the sidelines ๐Ÿ˜

Beautiful pictures, but at what cost? Shut down NASA.

  10. Floyd says:

#10: Compared to say, the dirty little war in Iraq, what NASA spends on their space missions is almost nothing.

If you want to save money, get our troops out of there and let the Iraqis kill each other off.

If you’re just not interested in space, don’t look at the pictures.

  11. Miguel says:

#10 NASA costs next to nothing to american taxpayers. The US defense budget is over $500 billion (I’m not sure of this figure). The total budget for NASA – missions to Mars, Saturn, Pluto, satellites, space shuttle, international space station, etc, etc, etc, etc – is about $17 billion – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASA_budget. Shut down the Pentagon instead! Invest the money in renewables, nuclear fusion, high tech, social security and quality of life, education and yes, space! You’d be world leaders again in 10 years!

  12. OmegaMan says:

What!!! This is BS! When did they send out the spacecraft 1965? How long has color photography been around? None the less I enjoyed the Daguerreotypes sent by Nasa.

  13. Miguel says:

#13 It’s not daguerreotypes, the photos are BW because they’re faxed over to Earth.

  14. Mister Mustard says:

    >>Beautiful pictures, but at what cost? Shut down NASA.

Oh, get stuffed, Lyin MikeN. The amount of money that NASA spends would barely cover the costs for Dumbya’s TV makeup and media training classes (now THERE’S a waste of money).

    These pictures rock.

  15. James Hill says:

#11 – Just because an astronaut doesn’t want to explore Uranus is no reason to get pissy.

  16. apeguero says:

Shut down NASA? I’d say fund it more. Hell, I’d love for our government to re-assess Iraq and figure out that we’ve spent enough over there already. NASA could do with 10% of that budget ๐Ÿ™‚

An area I’d love for NASA to study is the area just outside the orbit of Neptune. I read somewhere that there could be a red dwarf star there. The guy that claims this (I don’t know if he’s actually a scientist) says that most stars have a twin and this one could be our Sun’s twin star and could be responsible for the near earth destroying comets that have struck Earth in the past due to this hypothesized star’s orbit and it’s effect on ORT Cloud objects. Fascinating. NASA, please investigate. The Messier objects are fascinating but are much too far away for us to ever visit anytime soon. Pluto’s neighborhood however is 15 years away at current technology. There might be some interesting bodies over there that we may want to study. The Interstellar Medium around our Galaxy might also be interesting to look at. However, it may be too dark to see anything.
