What caught my attention in this one was the teaser about how to avoid jet lag. I’m heading off to China again for a good two weeks, and although I love the food and the people, I could do without the jet lag. China is 1/2 day ahead, so midday here is midnight there. As bad as you can get.

By the time I adjust to the time there, it’s time to leave. By the time I adjust here, I feel like I’ve been run over by a bus. Twice.

    And their solution is:
    “Don’t Eat”. ??!!!

I think I’m going to get a little hungry after day 12…

Tips from a Pacific traveller, jet lag avoidance doesn’t work. Treat the symptoms when you arrive. Get as much morning sunlight, three standard meals, avoid grog, learn how to take short naps. You’ll recover in less than a day.

I’ve made several trips from Boston to Asia and Australia. I have no good solution for the return trip, but heading over I prepare 5 days before the trip. Each night I stay up 2 hours later, wake up 2 hours later. On the night before the trip, I stay up all night, catch the 8am flight and sleep straight through to San Francisco. Change flights and go back to sleep (Bose sound suppression head phones, eye mask, blanket under seat belt, and a do not disturb sticker).

I wake up a few hours before landing at Tokyo and am in sync with Asian time zones.

#3, I wish my schedule would allow that.

    I envy you, jbenson2, envy.

Thanks, I’ll do all that and more.

  7. Ron Larson says:

I fly from Los Angeles to Western Australia multiple times a year. My trick is just to sleep as much as I can during the flight. That way I am wide awake when I arrive, either in LA or AU.

Get to bed early the first night too. It still takes it out of you, 22+ hour flight.

I don’t eat much on the flights. I certainly don’t force myself to stay awake and watch movies on a crappy little screen.

  8. andy says:

i’ve never had a problem with lag flying to asia. i sleep on the plane and eat on the plane and all points in between. after the first night’s sleep after landing – i’m dialed in.

  9. J says:

There were 6 Atlantic hurricanes last year. Not none.

I hate the new “player” on btpodshow.com . If I fall behind and have two days’ worth of tech5 to listen to, it keeps playing the same day again.

I use the link to the left here:
    http://www.btpodshow.com/feeds/tech5.xml

That page used to link directly to the mp3 files, now it goes to that useless player. To link directly to the files, I now have to track them down here on the blog. (Bitch, moan, complain, rag, rag, rag!)
