I know the comparison between Obama and McCain, Apple and Microsoft, is a bit facile; but, the two links here: the Post’s link to the YoungerThanMcCain site and jb’s link to his own site’s YoungerThanObama list just reinforces the apparent comparison:

this goes back to the theory that some wingnuts yearn for a father figure in their institutions, religious leaders, government, etc.
People who were conservative at age 23 had been described by their teachers as easily victimized, easily offended, indecisive, fearful, rigid, inhibited, and vulnerable at age 3. The reason for the difference, the Blocks hypothesized, was that insecure kids most needed the reassurance of tradition and authority, and they found it in conservative politics.

#3 Excellent post although in my opinion it is beyond a theory and fits quite well with Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.

It’s sad to me that people view McCain’s “oldness” as a major factor.
Used to be that age was respected — and at least in some cultures still is.
