Michael Travesser aka Wayne Bent aka
“The Son of God”

SANTA FE, N.M. – The leader of an apocalyptic sect was arrested Tuesday on sex charges and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, police said.

Authorities charged Wayne Bent with three counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, said Sgt. Bobbie Long of the Clayton Police Department.

Authorities did not say whether the charges were related to the recent removal of three children — two girls and a boy, all under 18 — from the compound in an area near the Colorado line. Bent, who goes by the name of Michael Travesser and claims to be the Messiah, is the leader of The Lord Our Righteousness Church, which moved to the site in 2000. He was picked up Tuesday at the remote, former ranch where he and his followers live. Bent has acknowledged having sex with followers — including his daughter-in-law — and lying naked with virgins. He said the virgins asked for sex, but he refused.

The three children removed last month are believed to have been the only minors there. A posting attributed to Bent on the church’s Web site Monday said: “Jesus had not committed any crimes, so the authorities had to invent some crimes to crucify him over. It is the same for me also. I have committed no crimes, but many crimes are being imagined and concocted in the minds of men to try and kill me again.”

Bent had predicted the end of the world last Oct. 31.

Oh no, the Messiah was wrong…can we fire him and get a new one?

    Expect more of these guys.

Don’t they always rise during uncertain times?

  4. MotaMan says:

Eustace Mullins has some interesting things to say about religion and the CIA.

  5. On second thought my comments in #2 were foreplay not pick up lines.

But seriously guys like this are pure evil scumbags.

  7. Jeanne says:

Why is it that so many of these heads of cults like to have sex with the underage? (I have my own ideas)

  8. Cinaedh says:

“Bent had predicted the end of the world last Oct. 31.”

That’s interesting. It means his Dad lied to him. I wonder what else his Dad is lying about to the rest of us?

Bet his son was real happy about that.

Shit, this guy’s in my backyard. Crazy.

Props to the Eustice Mullins reference. I have watched a couple of his videos online and downloaded his Federal Reserve book, but care to elaborate on what you meant #4.

Eustace says that 30 something years ago it was real easy to get funding to start a religion or church… no matter what you believe, #3 may be right since there seems to be a real problem with this kind of fallout.

cult messiahs (like this guy, and rush limbaugh) are like toilet paper

I disagree. Toilet paper has a useful function in society.

Eustice Mullins credible? Check the definition of crackpot.

  17. Dnieper says:

When the King comes back every eye will see Him. Men like this are not nothing more than Satan’s plot agaisnt men’s souls. Becareful what you believe. Fear of the Lord is the begining of wisdom.

  18. Sister Mary Hand Grenade says:

What is it about religion and sex offenders?

#17 – Did you mean Don King or Martin Luther King? Why fear the Lord when there are plenty other religious folks to fear?

  19. bobbo says:

Sex offenses are mostly about the abuse of power ((as in power corrupts?)). Religion is ALL ABOUT POWER. And so those with the power tend to go mad over time. The go mad in all the areas you can go mad about==money, sex, having the final word, end of days, requiring worship.

    Just like god.

  20. gadlaw says:

He looks like Michael Palin from Monty Python dressed up and ready to run toward the camera at the beginning of the show to say “It’s ” (Monty Python’s Flying Circus!) . But he’s just another Pervy bast@@# who’s happily under arrest now.

  21. julieb says:

I don’t think religion is to blame here. This loser just happens to be the leader of a cult and is taking advantage of his power over people. If he was an employer he would be trying this to his employees without the religious context.

The thing I have a problem with is retarded comments like Dnieper said in #17. Sometimes losers like to use these stories to push there lame ass religion on other people.

“Fear of the Lord is the begining of wisdom” -Dnieper

An utterly pathetic and shameful comment.

There is no god, Dnieper. Get some dignity.

  22. Cursor_ says:

    #21

    Religion is never to blame.
    Neither are governments.
    Neither are corporations.

    Nor any THING.

In the end we are all the final arbiters in our lives. If we allow a religion to do us over WE allowed it. We want it to stop, then stop.

People like to blame THINGS because it means the pressure of resposibility is removed and they can use the old phrase “NOT ME”.

Humanity is responsible for all tragedy and all glory that befalls or uplifts humanity.

  23. bobbo says:

#22–Cursor==you have the germ/gem of an idea but then take it way too far–on purpose I presume?

While individuals have the ultimate responsibility for decisions made, other “things” like religion, government, corporations certain have an enfluence, and given the mix of enfluence and susceptibility, to avoid the issue altogether and look only at the individual is to miss the conflict.

Its like saying the voters deserve the Congress we have and ignoring the role of money, power, and corruption. Something as complex as human decision making in a group context is not any one thing.

  24. Uncle Ben says:

julieb I don’t think religion is to blame here.

In this case I’d be inclined to agree with Bobbo that religion, or more accurately, religion and power, are too blame. It is all too easy to get drawn into the power of religion and to let that corrupt you.

Indeed, much of the reason why churches formed in the first place was to create a system of checks and balances to stop individuals from becoming too wrapped up their own power. I am not saying this system has always worked, but that was a big part of the drive to create a centralised church and a standardised orthodoxy.

  25. Mister Mustard says:

    >>There is no god, Dnieper. Get some dignity.

Aw, Julie. I have God, and I have dignity. Deal with it.

  26. Mr. Gawd Almighty says:

    #18, Sister,

Did you mean Don King or Martin Luther King?

I think it might have been more of a B.B. style of King. Of course, we could be so very off course and he meant Billie Jean. It would be a hoot if the guy is just so mentally phuked that he was talking about his Lordship, King Crimson.

  27. chaplaw49 says:

I am a Kwahada Comanche and our traditional and spiritual homelands cover the Clayton, NM area. Our “apocalypse” went down in 1876 when Col. McKenzie and his U.S. Cavalry troops killed our buffalo off and slaughtered our horses and burned our teepees at the bottom of Palo Duro Canyon. Should have left us there along with the buffalo and the ecological system now deteriorated would have been better off and not home to the religious nuts. Why is it that no whiteman messiah gets it that my Kwahada People already went through our own apocalyse and we survived but in a different form? You might say we Kwahada are “True People of the First Apocalypse” and our “end of the world” was perpetrated by bible thumping Christians.

  28. grasshopper says:

Yet another nut on the loose. Using mindless women and children as their own sex toys. This is the result of “Religion” in general. There is no god there never was a god and there never will be a god. Wake up people. This only goes to show you the ignorance of people. Total ignorant. The bible is a book of bullshit. Put this sucker and his son away for a long long time, and when you do castrate the bastards as well.

  29. Steve Brohan says:

Where do these guys come from, proliferate from. It is obvious that anyone who says they are a Messiah is going to be crucified, that is what the whole Messiah story is about.

  30. doggygenesis13 says:

*sighs* this is EXACTLY what the bible warned. geez God didn’t do anything. this guy did.
