There’s a headstone in a cemetery with more information on it than you’d think you’d need.

Tucked away in a cemetery in Paramus you will find the gravesite and headstone of 60-year-old, former Manhattan attorney John Jacobs, along with something else – his cell phone number.

“I wanted to have a way to remember him,” said Marion Seltzer, John’s wife of 21 years.

And after dialing the number, the phone service is still working.

“Hi, you’ve reached the voice mail of John Jacobs … After you hear the beep leave a message and I’ll return the call,” is the message.

I’d like to hear the messages people have left on his voice mail.

The question is, what messages will be left five years from now.

“Hello this is the public library and you have two overdue books with fines totalling $8659.00. Please call us to negotiate an easy payment plan. Thank you.”

  2. RBG says:

Sheesh. Of course. How long is it going to be before each grave stone or plaque includes an engraved web site.

  3. jrtiberius says:

How sad, I feel for his wife. She probably called that number over and over just to hear his voice one more time.

  4. SJP says:

Question is, can you still send him a Dear John, letter?

    BTW: #2 That’s my plan!

  5. RTaylor says:

You can buy headstones with a screen that will play a short video message about the deceased, or cheaper models with audio. It may sound extravagant, but shop for an ordinary monument stone and you’ll find cheap is not an option.

  6. James says:

My grandma still uses the answering machine message that my grandpa (who passed away 5 years ago) recorded.

  7. SJP says:

#6 I called your grandma today and your grandpa answered. That is creepy.
