ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Public Schools is investigating claims that a student was forced to use a lunchbox as a toilet in front of his class at Meadowbrook Middle School.

Quonterious Thomas

The teacher will not be coming to school. She will be relieved of her duty with pay as the school district investigates, officials said. Thomas, 13, says his language arts teacher, Jameeka Chambers, gave him two options when he had to go to the bathroom at Meadowbrook Middle School. She said he could wait until the end of class or use her lunch box in the back of the classroom. The sixth grader said he used her lunch box. “If I had waited any longer, I would have peed on myself and that would have been even more embarrassing,” Thomas said, adding that his entire class of 19 students and his teacher watched.
When Thomas told his mom, she said she didn’t believe it at first and later realized how traumatized he was. “I have never, in all the days been living, ever heard about anything happening in all my life. This is a really big shocker for me,” said Shameka Bryant, Thomas’ mom.

“I’m seeking counseling for him, asking questions. What was the purpose? I want to know,” Bryant said. Orange County Public Schools wouldn’t specifically comment about what happened. The district says teachers have to allow students to use the restroom.

I think Shameka owes Jameeka a slap upside the head, and let Quonterius use the bathroom as needed. Florida sure is weird!

I have known Shameka and her son for about 4 years now. She is a hard working independent and caring mother. She is not the typical ” Oh I will come down there and fight that teacher” type mother. I believe the teacher should have allowed him to go to the restroom and her career would not be in jeopardy at this moment. This is sad and could have been avoided. On another note: Everyone is entitled to their own opinion as far as naming their children. Especially a mother like Ms. Bryant who does not recieve public assistance. My love and prayers go out to you all

WHATEVER SHE NAME HIM DON’T MATTER HE SHOULD BE ALLOW TO GO WENT HE HAVE TO GO I GOT YOUR BACK CUZ

I feel for the teacher who has the problem with all the kids needing to go. She tipped her hand when she said that she use to let them all go when they came in from lunch/recess.

The problem is the principal, not the students. I am a retired teacher. When I taught elementary music the kindergarten teachers sent EVERY CHILD to the restroom before music and then sent EVERY CHILD to the restroom after returning from music. It was rare for a kindergarten child to ask and no kindergarten kid had an accident in three years I taught that grade level.

And…some elementary schools only have one restroom break (the whole class can go) a day. Unbelievable. The rest of the day they have to convince a teacher that they are about to pee themselves to get to go. STUPID.

I had a few that always wanted to go about 9:30 when I taught six grade. We moved the break to 9:05 Bingo. The requests dropped significantly.
The bus students especially needed a break about nine in the morning.

Teachers and principals who use common sense don’t have that many problems. We teachers create many of our own nightmares.
