This is just one of a number of videos clips that came out a few years ago based on a computer animation project called Animusic. The creators are working on their third video compilation. Check out how it’s made and their cool hardware list.

And now for something vaguely related… A Craftsman skeleton.

It took me two minutes to realize that it’s CGI.

  2. floyd says:

I’ve seen this before, but it’s still very cool!

  3. Eideard says:

Watched these several times on one of the animation series offered on Tech TV. Some great young animators got well-deserved publicity from the telecasts.

  4. usla says:

    similiar idea in “real”

  5. Gary, the dangerous infidel says:

Rube Goldberg would probably have been an Animusic fan.

One of the animation details I liked is how all of the balls are caught in a series of cones and quickly recycled, so as not to make a mess of balls on the floor. If not for this feature, an animated cleanup crew would be needed 😉

  6. John Paradox says:

I have both Animusic DVDs, and love them. Am waiting for #3.

    J/P=?

  7. Gary, the dangerous infidel says:

#6 John, which is your favorite? Of the few I saw, Pipe Dream was mine.

    Too cool for music school!

  8. John Paradox says:

Gary, I liked Drum Machine on vol. 1.
It looked like you could actually BUILD a system with the gears, etc.

On 2, probably the first, Starship Groove.

I think I have copies of Eye Drops, where I first saw it, and have to edit and burn them to DVD.

    J/P=?

  9. Gary, the dangerous infidel says:

Yeah, John, Drum Machine is pretty cool in an “industrial” sort of way, but to echo the sentiment of Christopher Walken’s character from a Saturday Night Live skit, “I need more cowbell!” 😉

Starship groove is by far the best robot band I’ve ever seen! I’ll be interested to see the third DVD as well. I just saw this stuff on PBS a couple of nights ago for the first time and it bowled me over.

Anyone owning an ATI based graphics card can download the music demo thingy shown in this youtube clip from the demo section of ATIs site.
It can then be all done in real-time in whatever resolution you want by your GPU rather than watched as an inferior quality video or DVD.

Actually, the animusic.com site has downloads of various clips and songs, also wallpaper, etc.

    J/P=?

  12. zybch says:

    The ATI site ISN’T clips.
Its realtime versions of the stuff that gets rendered in REAL TIME by your video card! Nothing pre-rendered!
Not sure how else to describe it for the hard-of-thinking.

  13. hhopper says:

I don’t have an ATI card. I have an Nvidia card and the downloads ran fine for me.
