EETimes.com – Next-gen Wi-Fi standard remains in limbo

With the IEEE making no conclusive decision Thursday on which of the primary proposals for the 802.11n specification it would embrace, the stage is set for a compromise proposal encompassing aspects of both proposals.

In a meeting in Atlanta Thursday, 180 voters, or 56 percent, supported the Task Group N (TGnSync) proposal, compared to 44 percent for the WWiSE (World-Wide Spectrum Efficiency) proposal.

  1. Ed Campbell says:

I understand how these meetings procede and I think you need something like the 75% acceptance to develop a genuine standard — instead of negotiated settlement. As a consumer it’s still pretty frustrating to wait for that next-gen solution to problems facing some mixed networks.

    Phew!

  2. Jim says:

It’s Sunday here. You’ll get here in a few hours. Maybe they’ll invent a time machine before wi-fi moves along.

  3. Jim says:

    From NASA
    Did you know?
Using less wattage than a small light bulb, spacecraft cruising beyond Pluto send signals back to Earth that are picked up by the massive Deep Space Network satellite dishes.

You would think robust, secure wi-fi would be fairly simple.
