Wasn’t Worried

ABC News: FCC Rules ‘MNF’ Intro Wasn’t Indecent — Was there even a remote question here? We’ve all turned into weenies.

WASHINGTON Mar 15, 2005 — Sure, the steamy introduction to ABC’s “Monday Night Football” was titillating, showing the bare back of “Desperate Housewives” actress Nicollette Sheridan as she jumped into the arms of football player Terrell Owens.

But U.S. regulators ruled Monday the racy clip didn’t violate federal indecency standards. In a unanimous decision, the five-member Federal Communications Commission said the segment “simply is not graphic or explicit enough to be indecent under our standard.”

  1. Hank says:

I didn’t see the bit but I have to wonder if it was any worse than all those bikini beer commericals.

We don’t get that housewives show over here in the ME (and probably won’t) but I have to say, what a beautiful actress!

  2. Mel says:

If not for the interracial nature of the piece, we wouldn’t even be talking about it. Had she jumped into Brett Favre or Peyton Manning’s arms it just would have been sexy.

  3. Ima Fish says:

I agree with Mel. The sole reason the Right was upset about it was because of the interracial aspect of the skit.

  4. No, there was never any doubt. I’m sure little complaints like this happen all the time. They’re received, read, reviewed, and dismissed.

The racial argument being made is a specious attempt by those who refuse to look beyond color on any issue. I find it amusing that those who are most vocal in their desire to make the world colorblind are the same ones who raise the issue at every possible opportunity. Like now.

  5. Jay Byrd says:

There is something very very wrong with the five FCC commissioners personally making decisions as to what is or isn’t “indecent”.
