Picture taken from the South end of the Millennium Bridge, with St. Paul’s Cathedral on the left side of the picture. The photo was taken close to the location of yesterday’s picture.

  1. bobbo says:

Boy, you gotta Photoshop some clouds in there and move the horizon off dead center.

Use the “rule of thirds” even for test photos?

  2. ghm101 says:

Bobbo – What’s your thing for clouds?

As someone who lives in London I like it when there are none.

  3. Jess Hurchist says:

Yeah, I thought he’d photoshopped some blue sky in there

  4. Gasparrini says:

Well, as it happens, today is a beautiful day with more clouds than when I took the pictures, but it just happens that I left my camera at home. Now, I have to say that I like that there aren’t any clouds. Since I moved to England, the colour of my hair has changed, becoming darker due to the lack of sunshine.

  5. TIHZ_HO says:

Gasparrini, don’t forget the really short winter days too! isn’t there a winter depression syndrome in the UK? Go to work its dark, come home its dark and in between its cold misty rain.

No wonder Brits are eccentric… but they gave us the Beatles and John Cleese!

    Cheers

  6. BubbaRay says:

Never hurts to ask — how about a pic of (and from) the Eye?

  7. Gasparrini says:

A pic of the Eye is coming, however, I will not get on it since I’ve been told it’s quite expensive.

  8. bobbo says:

#2–ghm101==mostly I’m just goofing on Gasparinni “but” as a photographer and amateur judge, critical commentary is done with the goal of educating/reminding folks how to take better pictures.

Now maybe because I live in California, I am sick to death of plain blue skies? But no==regardless of idiomatic preferences, there are general rules of aesthetics that make any picture more artiistic without restricting a more general freedom of expression and interest.

The rule of thirds or the tic/tac/toe rule is one such easy rule. Put your horizon at a 1/3 mark and for some reason you always have a better picture.

Now, some will argue that there is no difference between kool-aid and wine because it is all personal taste. And for those folks we simply know that they do not like wine.
