“Director McConnell? Thanks for the suggestion.”
Unintended consequences.
Can terrorists use the Net to avoid wiretaps?
Can members of Al Qaeda use voice over Internet technology (VoIP) to avoid wiretaps?
Recent comments by Michael McConnell, Director of National Intelligence, seem to suggest that terrorists could create significant roadblocks for the National Security Agency by simply routing their traffic through the U.S.
[…]
If McConnell is to be believed, Al Qaeda merely needs to switch to using U.S.-based voice over IP services, and it can immediately crush the NSA under a pile of FISA paperwork. No matter where the NSA actually tried to intercept the Internet-routed phone call, a FISA warrant would be required. For $24.99 a month per terrorist, Al Qaeda could launch a gigantic legal denial of service against the folks at Fort Meade. Furthermore, now that the iPhone has been hacked to support VoIP software, the VoIP-subscribing terrorists could communicate in style.
Another brick in the wall…
Cheers
Is it just me or does the Director McConnell look stoned in that picture? Squinting in regular room light is not a good sign.
Is this the reason for the multiple attempts of the Bush administration to get rid of FISA?
Or is this story a lie because VoIP is actually easier to trace?
You really have to wonder how supposedly stupid is the Director of National Intelligence.
I mean, is he stupid enough to be broadcasting this apparent ‘problem’ or is he stupid enough to think he can fool Al Qaeda into using VoIP?
…or is he smart enough to use this as an excuse to get rid of FISA paperwork?
Any bets, he thinks the citizens are the stupid ones and he can fool them without even trying very hard?
Is American VoIP A Foreign Terrorist’s Best Friend?
Is American envelopes A Foreign Terrorist’s Best Friend?
Btw… most terrorist attacks against the USA has been performed by local fanatics.
I thought box-cutters were a foreign terrorist’s best friend?
And, of course, our terrorist-friendly student visas for Saudis.
I believe that Mr. McConnell owns stock in eBay and Skype and is just doing what he can, out of the kindness of his heart, to help boost the price. he should have talked about Trac phones, he might get a free one.
Isn’t aiding the enemy a federal offense?
rotiart!
