New York Times – 1-4-08:

In 1984 and again in 1999, the National Academy of Sciences, the nation’s most eminent scientific organization, produced books on the evidence supporting the theory of evolution and arguing against the introduction of creationism or other religious alternatives in public school science classes.

On Thursday, it produced a third. But this volume is unusual, people who worked on it say, because it is intended specifically for the lay public and because it devotes much of its space to explaining the differences between science and religion, and asserting that acceptance of evolution does not require abandoning belief in God.

The 70-page book, “Science, Evolution and Creationism,” says, among other things, that “attempts to pit science and religion against each other create controversy where none needs to exist.” And it offers statements from several eminent biologists and members of the clergy to support the view.

First, no real scientist disputes that evolution occurs in all species including humans. None. Not one that does not come from Bob Jones U. That species evolve is as indisputable as gravity or that the world is not flat.

Second, disproving evolution theories provides absolutely no support to creationist hypotheses. Thus, even if every theory on evolution were disproven, creationism would still not be scientific.

If anything, more people are realizing that creationism is simply disguised Judeo-Christian fundamentalism.

Again, if you actually know something about logic and how to think critically, eventually all claims about the existence of a supernatural being will fade away.

    > Both Evolutionist and Creationist
    > have the same exact evidence.

No, they don’t. Not even close. Your statement is one of utter ignorance about how science works and what science has proven about evolution. To make such a statement shows how little you know about science.

JB, seriously. Enough. Go to Talkorigins.org. There you will find all the rebuttals and supporting evidence to the tired arguments you are using. Every argument you have used has been thoroughly trounced by scientists. I suggest you start here:

    #99 said, “JB, seriously. Enough.”

    Seriously?

  3. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

Another “clever” avoidance tactic. How transparent.

As Thomas says, each and every single one of the tired, invalid arguments you put forth has been soundly, conclusively done down.

As with virtually all antievolutionists, your interest is not in learning what is true, it is in maintaining your chosen dogma at all costs, because your ego is wrapped up in it.

You are literally afraid of learning the truth. You instead spend your time memorizing false pseudoscientific creationist talking points. You live for denial of reality.

The difference between science and dogma is that science allows you to change your mind as you learn more. Dogma is forever. The certainty of dogma is far more important to the intellectually-handicapped, emotionally-driven personality than truth is.

It’s a constant source of amazement to me how people so adamantly insistent on being irrational can even survive to adulthood.

  4. QB says:

Three-Headed Cat (nice name by the way): JB ain’t worth your time.

    Seriously. 😉

  5. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

As the incomparable Gary Oldman has said in many of his films, “I know.” 😉

  6. JB says:

Well this took a lot longer than four days to get back. I originally intended to post a reply, but then as I read #101 and realized it could just as easily been talking about either side, it became apparent that neither side could gain ground while revolving around unprovable concepts. Mainly, the extrapolation of events that did not happen within human existence.

On the other hand, for an idea of just how illogical the Macro Evolutionary theory really is try arguing your point here.

  7. JB says:

In case a discussion of language (from #104) doesn’t interest you, how about a discussion of probability in the realm of astronomy? There’s a pretty good lecture and transcript here.

  8. bobbo says:

#104-105–JB==DNA is a self replicating sequence of proteins==if you want to call that a “code” and proof of God==have at it.

As far as entropy and the bible “proving” the existence of god–again go ahead.

So, even taking ALMOST everything you post as true for the conclusion you want to make==how do you know it was god and not satan, or some other god, or some other advanced race of being, or the FSM, or==just a dream?

And after that==none of those entities appear to take any action in this universe ((they don’t answer prayers)) so what good are they.

And even if they did all that they don’t, what in the universe makes them so special that they should be worshipped? In other words, why can’t they just leave us alone–except for those that wished to be so saved?

Its one thing to offer someone a present, quite another to punish them for not taking it?

  9. JesusFreak says:

First of all, nobody can know with any certainty at all–at this point anyway–exactly what went down. Even if you accept that the Big Bang occurred, whatever the compressed components that exploded out to create the universe had to have an origin.

Evolution is a theory of process. It is not a theory of origin. Those that argue that you can’t believe in God and in evolution because it takes God out of the equation are not seeing the whole picture.

If the universe follows a set of rules–and it does–then we can understand “As we create, so are we created…” And when I use the term creation I don’t necessarily mean it to be in fundamentalist terms.

We have a creator written into our hearts and hardwired into our brains. He is there in our DNA as much as traits from our mothers and fathers are there. If you will, he provides our spiritual DNA and they our physical.

I am not one to go about imposing limitations on the creator of the universe. By whatever means this whole place came into being–darn impressive work. Now, the condensed story in Genesis could be interpreted in so many, many ways, and clearly many details are left out. There is room between the lines for there to have been multiple layers to creation, multiple intentions in those creations, and greater and greater thought as he moved toward us. If we are wrong, based on the use of our reason–a gift from God almighty–I don’t think that is a sin. What we are commanded above all things is to love God and accept Jesus Christ as our savior. When that is done with a true and pure heart, the details fall away in importance.

hey… well cant you see if GOD put us on the earth than it seems to me that god would makes us a perfect specimen to his liking not a simple stupid ape that eats its own poop to survive.yet we are still the dominant species on this world and but not needing any thing to change us. God put different types of predators on the world and also little animals that are so low on the food chain that the time thy were created they were all ready extinct ,but their is a special little thing in this world called a mutation same thing ass a birth defect that is hereditary. And this is the thing that could of caused evolution when God still created the world instead of two little molecule that came together and formed a whole universe in 3.5 seconds. see if god created grafts in the beginning with shot necks like a normal horse and some grafts with a long neck like today when all the short necked grafts ate up all the lower leaves and only the long neck grafts got to eat than the short necked grafts would die out leaving only long necked grafts to reproduce more long necked grafts.
