Soldier who reported abuse sent to psychiatrist — A classic. Think the rationale is that anyone reporting what they see must be crazy for doing so, right?
WASHINGTON, MARCH 5: A US Army intelligence sergeant who accused fellow soldiers in Samarra of abusing detainees in 2003 was in turn accused by his commander of being delusional and ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation in Germany, despite a military psychiatrist’s initial judgment that the man was stable, according to internal Army records released on Friday.
The soldier angered his commander by urging the unit’s redeployment from the military base to prevent what the soldier feared would be the death of one or more detainees under interrogation, according to the documents. He told his commander three members of the counterintelligence team had hit detainees, pulled their hair, tried to asphyxiate them and staged mock executions with pistols pointed at the detainees’ heads.
Perhaps a little electro-shock will get you to remember things differently Mr. Andersen.
Ah, Yes. The old Catch 22.
I think most of Iraq is a suicide mission. At least in other wars the enemy wasn’t looking forward to getting killed and would fight a battle. These idiots the U.S. is fighting in Iraq load up a car with explosives and drive the thing right into a school, building or a house and want to go out in a big explosion. The whole place is a big living hell full of uncivilized nut jobs. Bush can talk about bring democracy to the country, but if a big part of the population has a death wish what is the point? Our troops are over there killing people that aren’t worth the gunpowder it is taking to blow them away. It’s at the point, they are blowing themselves away. You send the Army in there and it tries to restore order and control things and some bunch of terrorist blow up the police station. I think the crazy people are in Washington, convinced that Iraq is going to be this new friend of America. The troops have to deal with these idiots in Iraq up close and personal. I’m sure going to Iraq could make almost anybody nutty. Not as nutty as Rummy and these Nixon era has beens running the war from Washington. They were saying that if we pull out of Iraq it could turn into chaos without U.S. troops. Everything is in order now, it could be a lot worse. Iraq could hate Bush. It’s a good thing they love him. I get the feeling some of our troops have had it with Washington. Serving your country is good. Serving Iraq is looking worse all of the time. The people in Washington keep talking about how nothing is too good for Iraq. Iraq is a mess and getting more expensive all of the time. Washington is sending more U.S. troops into Iraq to prove Bush is right. I think he might be wrong about Iraq, although that might not be a popular position to take. War is never a very popular thing for a leader to undertake. This war seems to be getting less popular than most, although it appears more religious than past wars. Everybody thinks God is on their side, like God has blessed killing people to make a point. War is hell.
